The book has outlined the process of forming the type of resort tourism to protect health (Health tourism), the subject of resort tourism to care for and restore health is to give specific examples of Korea and Japan.

Author Baud Bovy (1977) is a pioneer in the study of weekend vacation tourism. He studied and found that in cities with over 1 million inhabitants, 41% of households have a second home for weekend vacations. He found that most short-term vacation programs are usually weekend vacations and the purpose of this trip is to escape from daily stress and pressure, and to restore the body after a stressful work week.

In Vietnam, there are also some scientific research works related to the type of resort tourism such as: The book "Health tourism" by Professor Phan Van Duyet (Hanoi Medical Publishing House, 1999), in the research work, the author pointed out the basic potential in developing the type of resort tourism in Vietnam. However, the current situation and measures to promote the exploitation of this tourism activity have not been clearly identified.

In May 2008, a group of authors from Hanoi College of Tourism conducted research and reported on a ministerial-level scientific project on “Current situation and solutions to promote medical resort tourism in Vietnam” (by Dr. Nguyen Manh Ty – Project Manager).

Ba Vi district is a place rich in tourism resources. It is favorable for the development of many types of tourism such as: Ecotourism, weekend tourism, medical tourism and resort tourism... Therefore, in recent years, the study of tourism in Ba Vi district has become a very familiar topic for scientists and research organizations with the aim of providing solutions for tourism development in Ba Vi district.

This place has quite diverse tourism resources such as Da Waterfall, Ao Vua, Khoang Xanh, Suoi Mo tourist areas... To better exploit the tourism potential, it is necessary to consider the development orientation so that Hanoi must be the main customer market and implement some solutions on

planning, training, professional development for human resources, implementing environmental protection for tourism.

Researching on tourism types in Ba Vi area, author Le Hai published an article in Vietnam Tourism magazine about Orientation for developing ecotourism in Ba Vi National Park - a scientific topic providing orientation for developing ecotourism in Ba Vi National Park in Ba Vi district.

In 2011, the group of authors Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ta Nhi (editor-in-chief), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Khac Thuan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Men, Dr. Nguyen Duc Nhue, MSc. Do Thi Bich Tuyen, CN. Nguyen Thi Lien (co-author) with the topic - Geography of Ha Tay (old). The research work covers all issues related to nature, culture, economy, and society of Ba Vi district. The work has pointed out the conditions and current status of Ba Vi tourism industry in the last years of the first decade of the 21st century and proposed a number of solutions for tourism development of the district in the future.

In 2012, the group of authors Tran Hoang Tam, Tong Thi Nga, Nguyen Thi Bich Hanh with the research project - Initial research on developing ecotourism at Ba Vi National Park, Ba Vi district, Hanoi city.

Author Hoang Van Ngoc - Faculty of Tourism - Duy Tan University also researched the topic - Developing ecotourism in Ba Vi tourist area in the period of 2010 - 2020. This is a research topic covering all tourist destinations in Ba Vi district to propose solutions for developing ecotourism in the district with a new research direction suitable to the development potential of the destination to meet the needs of tourists when coming to Ba Vi.

In addition, in the tourism development orientation, the tourism development planning of Hanoi city to 2020, with a vision to 2030, has also mentioned the development of tourism types in Ba Vi district. CONTENT

Chapter 1. SOME THEORETICAL ISSUES ON RESORT TOURISM

1.1. Tourism and tourism resources

1.1.1. Concepts

1.1.1.1. Tourism

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO): “Tourism includes all activities of people traveling and staying temporarily, for the purpose of sightseeing, exploring and learning, experiencing or for the purpose of rest, entertainment, relaxation; as well as the purpose of working and other purposes, for a continuous period but not more than one year, outside the settled living environment; but excluding trips whose main purpose is to earn money. Tourism is also a form of active rest in a living environment different from the settled place”.

The Law on Tourism (2005) defines “tourism as activities related to human trips outside their regular place of residence to meet the needs of sightseeing, learning, entertainment and relaxation within a certain period of time.” [Article 4].

The above definitions all state the nature of tourism:

Is the activity of people leaving their usual place of residence (except in cases of political migration, job search or invasion).

Meet the needs of rest, entertainment, sightseeing, and learning about scenic spots and historical sites.

Not for economic purposes because it can be explored for economic purposes later.

So tourism is an activity related to human travel outside of their regular place of residence to meet the needs of sightseeing, relaxation, learning, and entertainment within a certain period of time and not for economic purposes.

1.1.1.2. Tourism resources

Tourism is an economic sector with a clear resource orientation. Tourism resources are considered the purpose of tourists' travel; they are the most important resources, determining the development of the tourism industry. Tourism resources are the basis for forming and developing tourism territorial systems.

Research on resources for tourism development purposes has received much attention since the late 19th century, associated with the development of modern tourism.
