- Ky Yen Festival

Transportation System

The Ky Yen ceremony usually lasts two days and one night, including the main rituals: the ceremony to invite the god's decree; the ceremony to worship the God of Agriculture, the Temple, and the martyrs; the Tuc Yet ceremony; the Chanh Te ceremony; the ceremony to worship the ancestors, the descendants, and the deceased members; the ceremony to send the god's decree. The purpose of the Ky Yen ceremony is to worship the tutelary god to pray for national peace and security, and for the prosperity and well-being of the village.

Communal houses all worship the ancestors and descendants who were the ones who contributed to the establishment of the village or spent money to build the first public welfare projects, leaving an example for future generations. Therefore, in general, the Ky Yen festival has the meaning of a village's death anniversary.

- Temple Offering Ceremony

The temple worship ceremony is a folk ceremony, both men and women, young and old can come to worship. The organizers of the worship ceremony can be an elder, a hamlet chief, a farmer, or a woman. The offerings represent the hearts of the villagers.

The temple worshiping program is a condensed Ky Yen ceremony program. Depending on the object of worship of the temple, it can be divided into three types of temple worshiping: Ong temple worshiping ceremony, Co Hon temple worshiping ceremony, Ba temple worshiping ceremony.

Festivals at communal houses and temples attract many pilgrims every year.


- Chol Chnam Thmay Festival

It is the Khmer New Year celebration, held in the middle of the third lunar month every year. This is also the time of transition between the dry season and the rainy season, the time when agricultural production begins according to the traditional Khmer calendar, so the Chol Chnam Thmay festival is also synonymous with celebrating the new crop of the year. The Chol Chnam Thmay festival is one of the most important festivals of the year, held at pagodas and in each family.

- Oc Oom Boc Festival

Also known as the moon worshiping ceremony of the Khmer people in Vinh Long. The Oc Oom Boc ceremony is held in Tra On and Vung Liem districts, where many Khmer people live. It takes place on October 15 (lunar calendar) every year.

c. Traditional craft villages

The province currently has 17 craft villages that meet the criteria (including 4 traditional craft villages), including: 07 traditional craft villages producing bricks and pottery and 01 traditional craft village producing ornamental flowers and seedlings; 03 craft villages weaving water hyacinth mats; 04 craft villages growing and spinning sedge cores; 01 village making rice paper; 01 village making rice paper rolls. These craft villages and traditional occupations have contributed to shifting the local economic structure, creating jobs, and increasing income for idle laborers in rural areas.

Developing craft villages in association with tourism aims to exploit the potential and strengths of the eco-tourism areas of gardens and rivers, combining visits to traditional craft villages, joint ventures and partnerships with provinces in the region. Rice paper rolls in Luc Si Thanh island are a product that tourists often buy as gifts. In the past, people only used seasonal rice to produce rice paper rolls, but now it has been replaced by high-quality rice.

Fish sauces such as snakehead fish sauce, linh fish sauce, and snakehead fish sauce, the most delicious of which is Hau River snakehead fish sauce, are also of interest to tourists.

a. Road transport

The road traffic system in Vinh Long province includes National Highways, Provincial Roads (PRD), Urban Roads (URD), District Roads (DRD) and Commune Roads (CRD) forming a widespread and reasonably distributed road traffic network. Vinh Long currently has 5 National Highways (NH): QL1A, QL53, QL57, QL54 and QL80. National Highways 1A, 53, 54, with a total length of 131 km, of which National Highway 1A is the main road of the entire Mekong Delta with a length of nearly 35.36 km. Provincial roads: 31, 32, 33, 38, 39, with a total length of 139 km and 100.2 km of district roads. In addition, there are 2,061 km of rural roads. Currently, 100% of communes have car roads to the commune center and more than 90% of hamlets have roads for two-wheeled vehicles, basically eliminating monkey bridges. This is an important condition to attract tourists to the countryside, making it possible to travel in both rainy and sunny seasons.

b. Waterway transport: Along with the development of road transport, the development of inland waterway transport is currently a key task of the Transport sector. In the future, the system of waterway ports will become a connecting center with other modes of transport, contributing significantly to the development of tourism in localities.

According to the assessment survey of the transport sector, Vinh Long is also one of the provinces with the largest river system and river density in our country. However, currently, investment in waterway transport is still very limited, so the potential of inland waterway tourism has not been fully exploited.

Vinh Long has an advantage in waterway transportation because of the Hau River, Co Chien River and a dense network of canals connecting with many localities and other provinces. The waterway network in Vinh Long has over 170 km in operation, of which more than 40 km is run by the national route. In particular, the Tra On - Mang Thit route connecting the Western provinces with Ho Chi Minh City is a vital traffic route of great significance for waterway transportation in the province.

Total number of post offices by 2011: 19 post offices (including 01 level I post office, 07 level II post offices and 11 level III post offices, service radius 1.83 points/1km. Therefore, when needing to contact, tourists can travel only 1km to have a post office serving the communication for tourists.

- Water supply system: In addition to investing in developing water supply systems in urban areas, water supply for daily life and production needs of households in rural areas is also of concern. By 2010, the rate of households using clean water from centralized water supply stations in urban areas reached 78% and 32% of households in rural areas.

- Drainage system construction issue: In addition to the drainage system built in 2011, Vinh Long invested more than 18 billion VND to build and repair the drainage system in Vinh Long city area. The investment in construction of this project aims to solve the problem of wastewater and surface water drainage, ensuring environmental hygiene.

a. Medical facilities

- Stabilize the organizational structure of the Tourism Development Steering Committee, add a team of experts and amend the working regulations to promote the effectiveness of the Steering Committee.

- Coordinate with relevant sectors to organize and implement tourism development orientations to create favorable conditions for the activities of travel companies, tourist attractions, and tourist areas.

- Implement investment incentive and preferential policies and legal documents related to tourism to ensure an equal and lawful business environment.

- Coordinate well in incorporating tourism development orientations and programs related to industries and localities into industry programs and plans.

- Invest capital in infrastructure development to tourism planning areas with rural transport programs in localities with tourism development planning.

- Vinh Long has a particularly favorable geographical location for tourism development, located right in the center of the Mekong Delta, which is a favorable condition for tourism development cooperation with neighboring provinces.

- Natural tourism resources are quite favorable for eco-tourism, river tourism, and home-stay tourism. If fully exploited and developed with specific tourism products, it will bring significant results to the development of tourism in Vinh Long province.


The plant ecosystems and garden ecosystems on the island are currently attracting much attention from both domestic and foreign tourists, especially suitable for picnics, camping activities as well as adventure activities to explore nature... therefore, Vinh Long has many conditions to develop around these activities.

- Human tourism resources are quite rich and diverse with national-level cultural and historical relics and provincial-level cultural and historical relics, which are favorable for developing cultural and historical sightseeing tourism.

Vinh Long is also a place to preserve and develop traditional craft villages: red pottery village, bamboo weaving village, rice paper village... and in today's context, it also contributes effectively to tourism development.

- The infrastructure system and technical facilities are generally quite complete, the transportation system is widely developed from road to waterway; communication is strongly developed, telephone waves are covered throughout the province to best serve the communication needs of tourists; the electricity, water and medical services system is spread from the central area to the communes and wards to ensure the best service in taking care of the health of the people and even tourists.

b. Difficulties and limitations

- Natural tourism resources are still limited and underdeveloped, and their potential for tourism activities has not been fully exploited.

- The infrastructure system and technical facilities are quite developed but not really complete. Although the transportation system is spread throughout the province, the quality of the transportation system is still weak, not ensuring that all routes can be used by 4-wheel vehicles.

- Although traditional craft villages have developed, they have not created unique characteristics to help develop tourism activities, and have not built a tourism brand for a separate craft village.

- Although the health care system has developed widely, it has not yet ensured the number of doctors and beds for medical examination and treatment.
