Explanation and how to ask and fill in some information in the survey form:

- Household code: Based on the actual number of households surveyed and collected questionnaires, the household code is assigned to serve the purpose of synthesizing, searching and exploiting information.

- Question 1: Household identification information. Clearly state the name of the province, city, district, commune, ward and the code of each person as prescribed in the population change survey, labor resources and family planning (hereinafter referred to as the population change survey) of the General Statistics Office.

- Question 2: Information about the household head or the substitute respondent. Clearly state the full name, gender, month and year of birth, ethnicity, and occupation of the household head or the substitute respondent (ethnicity and occupation codes as prescribed in the population change survey of the General Statistics Office); the household types here include farming households, forestry households, fishing households, civil servant households, business households, or households with multiple members. In addition to the above information, clearly state the household's landline phone number and the household head's or substitute respondent's mobile phone number (if any) so that, when necessary, the investigator can contact to correct, adjust, or add additional information to the survey form.

- Question 3: Information about the number of people in the household and the number of people traveling during the year. Specifically:

Total number of people in the household are those who live and eat together, may or may not be related by blood, marriage or adoption; may or may not have common funds or a combination of both. How many people in the household traveled during the study year (a person in the household is said to have traveled during the year when he or she traveled at least once, regardless of whether he or she stayed overnight). To ensure accurate information, the investigator needs to clearly explain to the interviewee the criteria for determining domestic tourism, specifically: i) Places that the person travels to at least once a week (weekly) are not considered to be traveling; ii) Distances that the person travels within 20 km

km from the place of residence for overnight trips and 30 km for day trips are not considered tourism; iii) The duration of the trip must not exceed 12 months and iv) The purpose of the trip is not to earn money from the locality visited. Note that only those aged 15 and over and not absent continuously for more than 12 months are counted. This question is to check the results of the population change survey to once again confirm that the household has someone traveling (this survey will be combined and continued with the population change, labor force and family planning survey on April 1 of each year of the General Statistics Office).

+ If the head of the household answers yes, continue with the question: how many people in the household are traveling and who are they? Put the information about the full name of each person traveling in the appropriate position of the next question.

+ If the household head answers no, then it is necessary to ask carefully and find out why the household answered yes when investigating population changes, but now the answer is no. When the household head has confirmed once again that the investigation cannot be ended here and the conclusion that the previous answer sheet was about people traveling through the population change investigation is wrong.

Question 4: Information about travel of each household member who traveled in the past year.

Household members who travel: corresponding to a column on the right side of the table (the neologism columns) records a person who is a member of the household who travels (information on household members who travel is recorded according to regulations as in the population change survey of the General Statistics Office).

4.1. Personal information of household members traveling:

a. Write your full name;

b. Gender: check the appropriate box

c. Record the relationship with the head of household or the person answering on behalf of the household,

d. Clearly state the month and year of birth;

e. Job status clearly stated:

- Working: is a person of working age who is working in agencies or enterprises to receive salary or self-organized.

- Retired but still working under consulting or contract work.

- Retirement or old age retirement.

- Waiting for work

- Going to school

- Still young

4.2. Travel information

a. Tour travel

Tour travel is a package tour provided by a travel agency.

- Number of tours: Record as many tours as you take in a year. A trip is a closed journey from leaving home to returning home.

- The number of days of travel by tour is the number of days of travel of all the trips in the year added together. For example: Mr. Nguyen Van A in the research year traveled by tour twice, the first time for 5 days and the second time for 8 days, we say that Mr. A had two trips in the year with the total number of travel days being 5+8=13 (days).

Tour travel includes both pure tour travel and tour travel combined with business trips, study trips, conferences, and visiting relatives.

b. Self-organized travel

Self-organized travel is when tourists plan and take the initiative in using services during the trip. Self-organized travel also includes travel

Pure and combined tourism with business trips, study trips, visiting relatives... such as traveling on a tour. The way to fill in information is similar to the above section.

- Number of self-organized travel trips: record the number of self-organized domestic travel trips per year.

- The number of self-organized travel days is the total number of travel days of all self-organized travel trips. The calculation is similar to calculating the number of tour travel days.

The investigator will ask and fill in information on the form for each person in turn according to the order of the form. When the information of a person is filled in, the investigator needs to check it carefully and read it back to that person (if interviewing each person) or read the entire survey form back to the household head or the person providing information (if interviewing a representative). Any errors must be corrected immediately.

Finally, the investigator clearly writes the date of the investigation, signs and writes his/her full name on the right bottom of the investigation form, and thanks the person providing the information.

Note: - Before the interview, the investigator must clearly explain to the household head or the alternate respondent the purpose of the investigation, the principle of not disclosing private information and not using it for any purpose other than statistical synthesis requirements.

- The above survey form can be expanded to collect other information about domestic tourists such as the number of trips abroad, the number of day trips, etc. The scope of the thesis does not mention these contents, so we do not include them. The following is the survey diagram for the above survey form.

2.3.2. Building an investigation diagram

A survey to determine the proportion of domestic tourists in the total population requires a very large survey scope, so if a separate survey is organized, it will be

very costly in terms of human resources and finance. In order for the survey to proceed smoothly, ensuring both the necessary sample size and being suitable for the conditions of human resources and funding, that is, being highly feasible, we propose that the survey of domestic tourists from households will be conducted in 2 phases: Phase 1 , combined with the survey of population changes, labor resources and family planning on April 1 to determine households with and without travelers in the study year; Phase 2 , conducting a survey of the travel situation of people in households with travelers. In other words, phase 1 helps us determine the scheme in phase 2.

Below is the investigation process in separate phases:

2.3.2.1. Phase 1

Phase 1 is a survey to determine households with and without domestic tourists in the study year. The basis for determining households with and without domestic tourists in the year is based on additional information added to the content of the "population change, labor force and family planning survey" (abbreviated as population change survey) conducted by the General Statistics Office. Therefore, the sample size for the survey to determine households with tourists is also the sample size for the population change survey. The content of the additional information about tourism survey in this survey is very simple - there is only one question: "In the year..., did any household members travel domestically?". The investigator will check the box next to the word yes (if the answer is yes) or check the box next to the word no (if the answer is no). However, the investigator needs to clearly understand the criteria for determining tourists to guide the answer.

a. Sampling organization method, sample size and sample allocation .

The sample of the population change survey is according to a multi-level sampling scheme with stratified sampling and combined with cluster sampling (selecting the whole block):

The survey was conducted nationwide in 63 provinces and cities (63 large groups), then each province and city was divided into 2 urban and rural areas (small groups). In each urban and rural area of each province and city, the number of areas needed for the survey will be selected with a total of about 4,000 sample units nationwide (In the population change and family planning survey on April 1, 2007, there were 3,840 areas). These 4,000 areas will be distributed to 63 provinces and cities, and in each province and city, they will be divided into 2 urban and rural areas with reasonable proportions by the Department of Population and Labor Statistics of the General Statistics Office.

Based on the list of localities in 15% of the sample units of the population and housing census, a list will be made for each area (urban and rural) of the provinces and cities. Thus, a list will be made for each area of each province and city. Then, a random sample will be selected to collect enough localities as the sample allocation above.

In the selected areas, the investigator will make a list of all households in those areas and then conduct a survey of each household in turn according to the established area. On average, each area has about 100 households, so the whole country will investigate in phase 1 about 400,000 households (in reality, it may change to a higher or lower level, depending on the selected areas, but that change does not affect the reliability of the survey data because the sample as above is large enough to determine whether a household has a traveler or not).

Because answering only one question about whether or not people travel domestically is very simple, it does not significantly affect the results of answering other questions of the population change survey. However, it should be noted that to get accurate results of answering this question, the investigator must clearly explain to the information provider what is considered to be someone traveling domestically and must spend the necessary time to guide them.
