CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

3.1. Evaluation of the teaching program of extracurricular sports for preschool students at Na Tran Secondary School

3.1.1. Current status of implementing the teaching program of extracurricular sports for preschool education students at Na Tran Central College of Education.

The content and structure of the extracurricular sports curriculum for preschool education students at Nha Trang Central College of Education are shown specifically in Table 3.1.

- The extracurricular sports program includes 7 subjects: Aerobics, Volleyball, Swimming, Basketball, Badminton, Vovinam and Table Tennis.

- Each subject has 3 levels (90 periods), a total of 3 modules. Each module

30-period section. In general, the curriculum in extracurricular sports courses is mainly practical teaching, theoretical content is taught in conjunction with practical hours, the number of theoretical hours is limited and does not cover all teaching content, theoretical teaching hours are conducted on the training ground so lecturers cannot fully convey the skills and knowledge of sports.

- Technical learning time takes up most of the class time, limiting the physical improvement of students.

The teaching staff of Civic Education is an important factor, greatly affecting the quality of teaching Civic Education. A sufficient and qualified staff is an essential condition to improve the quality of Civic Education learning of students of Nha Trang Central College of Education.

Through table 3.8, the results presented in table 3.8 show that the number of GDTC lecturers at Nha Trang Central Pedagogical College includes 10 - 11 GDTC teachers; the majority are male; bachelor's and master's degrees are the majority.

The statistical table shows that the number of teachers in the department is still guaranteed.

The student/teacher ratio is guaranteed according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Only in the 2015-2016 school year with the number of students being 1,522, the student/teacher ratio was 152.2 students/1 teacher, which did not meet the requirements according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The qualifications of teachers are increasing and increasingly standardized in terms of qualifications, specifically the number of permanent teachers is 100%, guest teachers is 0%; the number of teachers with university degrees is decreasing and the number of teachers with master's degrees is increasing, the number of teachers with advanced degrees is increasing from 0% to 9.2%. In general, the qualifications of teachers are 100% of teachers with master's degrees or higher, meeting the requirements of good teaching and good learning of the school. This contributes to improving the quality of physical education work in Nha Trang Central College of Education.

The current situation of the student/teacher ratio, along with the integration trend and the school's development mission, shows that the teaching force of Civic Education at the school is facing difficulties, specifically (152.2 students/1 teacher) higher than the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (150 students/1 teacher). In addition, a number of young lecturers are recruited to replace retired lecturers, with good expertise but limited teaching experience, which greatly affects the quality of training. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the direction and organization of human resources management for the department, and orient the development strategy.

3.1.3. Current status of facilities serving teaching of subjects

Extracurricular activities of Na Tran Central College of Education.

Facilities, equipment, and playgrounds serving physical education play a very important and indispensable role in improving the quality of physical education. Moreover, this is also a direct condition for teaching and training of lecturers and students. With adequate facilities and equipment, physical education work can ensure quality. Specifically, quality training grounds and equipment will create high interest for both students and lecturers.

In recent years, the Department has proactively proposed to build and upgrade existing gyms and playgrounds. Specifically, Nha Trang Central College of Education currently has 1 multi-purpose sports training house, 01 physical education practice house, martial arts training house, 03 soccer training grounds, 04 volleyball training grounds, 04 badminton training grounds, 01 basketball training ground, 01 table tennis training house and 01 athletics training ground. Among the above gyms and training grounds, only the multi-purpose sports training house and table tennis training house are still serving well for training. The remaining gyms and training grounds are only at fair, average and poor levels. In addition, the department still does not have a swimming pool to serve the swimming learning of students.

In addition to stabilizing the learning facilities, the Department also proactively proposed to purchase equipment and tools for teaching and scientific research with the aim of improving physical education such as: balls, clocks, skipping ropes, lung ventilation meters, heart function meters, hand dynamometers, stopwatches, medical scales, tape measures, back strength meters, digital dynamometers, metronomes, plastic traffic markers... As a result, the Department has been equipped with 2 lung ventilation meters, 3 heart function meters, 4 hand dynamometers, 4 stopwatches, 2 medical scales, 2 tape measures, 2 back strength meters, 4 sets of dynamometers, 2 sets of plastic traffic markers. These tools are important means to support the periodic physical examination of the school's students.
