3.1.7. Bat Trang pottery village and sports - cultural - economic events

3.1.7.1. Bat Trang pottery village exhibition to welcome Sea Games

The exhibition was opened on December 4, 2003 at Bat Trang pottery village. This was not only a practical action to welcome the Sea Games but also contributed to promoting a traditional pottery village. The exhibition took place for a week.

Products displayed in the exhibition include traditional and exported ceramics, Sea Games symbols such as golden buffalo, cranes, especially the golden buffalo symbol in sports postures.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa - Deputy Organizing Committee said that after only two days, thousands of tourists came to visit. This exhibition has absolutely no commercial purpose but only the meaning of welcoming the Southeast Asian Games and introducing products to partners and tourists.

3.1.7.2. Bat Trang pottery village during APEC days

On famous streets and tourist attractions in Hanoi such as Hang Gai silk street and Bat Trang pottery village, the atmosphere welcoming APEC 2006 is very urgent and exciting. The two above-mentioned attractions are expected to be the stops for the wives of heads of state, officials and businessmen attending this APEC conference.

In Bat Trang, during the days filled with APEC atmosphere, billboards, posters, slogans welcoming APEC 2006, and national flags were brightly decorated all over the streets.

According to shop owners, environmental sanitation is always a priority these days. Before that, during the meeting days, the people were informed by the commune about basic knowledge about the APEC conference, trained in communication and maintaining security and order. Mr. Nguyen Van Xuan, owner of Huong Xuan ceramic shop, excitedly said: "I am very happy that the APEC conference took place with the presence of many politicians and foreign businesses. This is a great opportunity for Bat Trang ceramic products to be known to them, promoting investment and

open market

During the APEC conference, the police, military and the commune's departments and organizations have made plans to ensure security and order. Accordingly, the forces mobilized 100% of the military force, on duty 24/7. In addition to organizing meetings to discuss building a civilized and cultural lifestyle, the commune and the people also paid special attention to fire prevention and control at production facilities... All of the above activities aimed to ensure that the conference took place successfully, and left unforgettable impressions of the image of a friendly and open traditional craft village in the hearts of every visitor who visited here.

3.1.7.3. Exhibition "Bat Trang pottery - traditional and modern" celebrating 1000 years of Thang Long - Hanoi.

The exhibition will take place for 5 days from October 5 to 9, 2010 at Bat Trang pottery village - Bat Trang commune - Gia Lam district - Hanoi with themes such as: "Pottery legend", "Flowers of the earth", "Integration" and "Spreading".

Currently, preparations for the exhibition on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long are being carried out by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the People's Committee of Gia Lam district, ensuring the correct content, progress and quality.

The exhibition hopes to be an opportunity for international friends and every Vietnamese citizen to understand more deeply the proud traditions and history of the country.

3.1.8. General assessment

It can be seen that Bat Trang has a lot of potential for tourism development, but in reality, those potentials have not been exploited effectively. Hanoi has more than 1000 craft villages, the craft villages have a large density, located along traffic routes and are closely associated with historical, cultural and festival relics, so it is very convenient for travel companies to invest and build tours and tourist routes. However, according to the assessment, the development of craft village tours in the capital still faces many difficulties in terms of infrastructure.

infrastructure, poor transportation, unprofessional and inattentive service style. In addition, the presenters in craft villages are both lacking and weak. The implementation of policies and investment projects of the State and private sector is also slow. This is the situation that craft villages in Hanoi in general and Bat Trang pottery village in particular are facing.

According to Mr. Pham Trung Luong - Institute for Tourism Development Research - "Although developing craft village tourism is a priority in Vietnam's tourism development strategy, we still have little experience in developing tourism associated with preserving traditional craft village values, indigenous culture and poverty reduction in rural areas". He also said that the main reason for the ineffective exploitation and development of this type of tourism is that relevant departments and sectors lack the necessary coordination in building and planning craft village tourism.

In addition, the development of craft villages associated with tourism has not been implemented synchronously and professionally, most tourism activities have only taken place spontaneously. Mr. Le Van Cao, head of the Bat Trang ceramic club, commented: "Currently, tourism activities are mainly cutting the top, without specific orientation, and without high expertise."

Therefore, an essential issue that needs to be raised is to have effective measures to help exploit and develop tourism in Bat Trang pottery village effectively, commensurate with the potential that this craft village has. Below I would like to propose some solutions to better exploit the tourism development potential of Bat Trang pottery village.

3.2. Some solutions to better exploit the potential of Bat Trang pottery village to serve tourism development.

3.2.1. Solutions for tourism management and development planning

Bat Trang should establish a craft village management board with a tighter, more compact, less cumbersome organizational structure and especially avoid overlapping in management organization, creating favorable conditions for craft villages as well as village tourism.

development profession

Complete the planning of Bat Trang pottery village according to the project "Detailed planning of Bat Trang traditional craft village" which has been proposed under the approval of the Department of Planning and Architecture, the Department of Transport and Public Works, the Department of Planning and Investment of Hanoi City. The project includes: planning the construction of the craft village and the residential area far apart (with the new production area of 16.4 hectares) to ensure the environment and health of the people and tourists, while serving well the production as well as the application of advanced technologies in the production process; planning valuable architectural works in the ancient village (Hamlet 1 and Hamlet 2).

2) such as ancient houses, ancient pottery kilns, communal houses, pagodas, and temples to preserve and conserve traditional values to serve the economic, social development as well as tourism of the pottery village.

3.2.2. Infrastructure construction solutions

3.2.2.1. Building social infrastructure

Repair, upgrade and expand a road about 10 km long from the foot of Chuong Duong bridge to Bat Trang pottery village. Along with that is the construction of a high-pressure lighting system on this road section.

There should be specific plans and projects to build the Red River embankment west of the village to prevent erosion because the Red River has caused very serious erosion and landslides in Bat Trang pottery village, making the already narrow area of the village even narrower.

The roads in the ancient village are still very narrow and winding, which is a characteristic of the village. However, for tourists to travel conveniently, there should be signs because if you are not a villager, it is very difficult to visit every place in the village.

Village roads have been concreted but there is no suitable drainage system, so the roads are often flooded and wastewater is stagnant. Therefore, it is necessary to upgrade the drainage system to solve the flooding problem, especially in the rainy season.

Bat Trang village by road must pass through another village, Giang Cao village, which also has many ceramic art shops and production kilns. Therefore, in order for tourists to reach the traditional Bat Trang village, there should be more signposts along the dike road and most importantly, the road through Giang Cao village to be able to go straight to the village gate.

Building a waste treatment system during the ceramic production process reduces the level of environmental pollution in the village. Using exhaust and dust extraction equipment such as static filters and bag filters, depending on the capacity of the craft village, use reasonable capacity to ensure that the amount of exhaust does not exceed the permitted standards; building a reasonable chimney ensures that the gas is evenly dispersed into the environment.

Carry out technical improvements in ceramic production, especially the ceramic firing process, switching from coal-fired to gas-fired to minimize negative impacts on the environment, thereby attracting more tourists to Bat Trang. And in the near future, Bat Trang ceramic village will cooperate with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology to apply a new method of "using kerosene" to fire ceramics instead of gas and coal, which is both environmentally friendly and reasonably priced, so it can be easily applied to the reality of Bat Trang ceramic village.

It is necessary to build a larger and more organized and reasonably managed parking lot.

Build and upgrade the communication system in the village such as building public internet access points, public telephone poles, mass media such as: village radio station, periodically publishing publications introducing Bat Trang pottery village...

Build and expand communal health facilities in general, and open a few more health centers in Bat Trang pottery village to meet the needs of tourists when necessary.

These are not only technical facilities serving the development of the tourism industry in particular, but also serving the general economic and social development needs of Bat Trang pottery village and Bat Trang commune.

3.2.2.2. Building infrastructure to serve tourism development

Carry out construction, expansion and upgrading of restaurant facilities to serve the dining needs of tourists, ensuring quantity and quality of service.

Currently, in Bat Trang there is no system of motels or hotels to serve the accommodation needs of tourists. This is a major limitation that Bat Trang pottery village needs to overcome immediately to attract tourists to the craft village. It is necessary to build standard motels to serve the accommodation needs of tourists.

Here it is also necessary to build some more entertainment spots to serve the entertainment needs of tourists.

There should be policies to restore and protect the village's historical, cultural and social relics such as communal houses, pagodas, temples and village halls in a specific manner to both preserve the relics and not lose traditional cultural values. In addition, there should also be measures to restore and protect other historical relics of significance in the village such as the relic of Uncle Ho's visit to the village in 1958 or the relic where the first "Independence" newspaper was printed, and also the place where the late musician Van Cao composed the immortal national anthem of our country today. These are extremely meaningful relics not only for Bat Trang pottery village but also for our country. These are extremely meaningful humanistic tourism resources that need to be restored and embellished to be exploited and developed in Bat Trang pottery village.

It is necessary to restore the village's ceramic museum and expand the development of the private ceramic museum so that tourists can visit and see Bat Trang ceramic products from different historical periods and have a more comprehensive and in-depth view of Bat Trang ceramic products, as well as the development history of the ceramic village.
