INTRODUCTION
1. Reason for choosing the topic
For a long time, tourism has become an indispensable need for people. Not only for the purpose of sightseeing, entertainment, nowadays people travel with the need to learn about the traditional cultural values of the destination. One of the places that cannot be missed for those who are eager to learn is traveling to traditional craft villages.
Thang Long with 61 wards in the Ly - Tran period, 36 streets in the Le - Nguyen period and Hanoi today is the convergence of craft villages from all over the country. The development of craft villages not only plays a role in improving living standards, but also marks the traditional culture of the nation in each period of building and defending the country.
The history of cultural development as well as the history of economic development of the country is always closely linked to the history of the development of Vietnamese craft villages. Because handicraft products are not only purely cultural or economic items for daily life, but they are also works of art representing the culture - society, the level of economic development, the intellectual level and the human characteristics of the nation. Another special thing is that craft villages do not simply produce goods like in a factory, but they are also a long-standing traditional cultural, economic, social and technological environment. It preserves the quintessence of art and techniques passed down from generation to generation, expressed through the hands and minds of generations of talented artisans with products that have their own identity but are representative of the entire Vietnamese nation. In each craft village, past and present, it has two basic elements: Cultural tradition and professional tradition. These two elements blend together inseparably to create craft village culture in particular and Vietnamese culture in general.
According to statistics from the Institute for Tourism Research and Development, every year there are up to 800 million people traveling. This number will be more than 1 billion in 2010 and reach 1.6 billion in 2020. Of which, 60% of the current tourist flow is choosing cultural tourism - craft villages. Our country has more than 2000 craft villages, if given proper attention, the potential for tourism development will be huge.
When talking about traditional craft villages in our country, we cannot help but mention one of the most famous craft villages in the past as well as in the present, which is Bat Trang pottery village - Hanoi.
“I wish I could get her
Let me buy Bat Trang bricks to build. Build vertically and then horizontally.
Build a crescent lake for her to wash her feet"
The familiar folk song from our ancestors has summarized not only the quality but also the reputation of the region's ceramic and brick products. Not only is the beauty embellished with flowery words on paper, the beauty of Bat Trang products is the sophisticated beauty shown in every detail and line from the time they are just raw materials until they become products that reach consumers. It is not natural that the guy in the above folk song wants to buy Bat Trang bricks to build a pond for his lover to wash his feet, but because Bat Trang bricks have high hardness and good quality, they are often used to build houses, pave yards, build wells...
A perfect combination of beautiful ceramic products with historical and traditional values, Bat Trang is now not only a pure production village. With many religious and cultural works and famous ceramic products, the village has become an attractive tourist destination of Hanoi city. Coming to Bat Trang, visitors will be guided by local people who have devoted their whole lives to the craft village and told stories about life and legends associated with the development process of the pottery village. Bat Trang is not simply a craft village but also a cultural village. Besides
In addition, under the guidance of skilled craftsmen with over 20 years of experience in the ceramic industry, visitors will be guided meticulously and specifically to try their hand at being an amateur artisan. Under their hands, you will see the inanimate lumps of soil become soulful and become a real product. Perhaps that is why today, Bat Trang has become an indispensable destination for those who love to learn about traditional national culture in general, and learn about traditional craft villages in particular.
It can be seen that, currently, in addition to the main purpose of producing traditional handicrafts, some craft villages have combined tourism activities to exploit the village. Bat Trang is also one of the few craft villages that have relatively developed tourism activities. However, in order for tourism activities in traditional craft villages in general and in Bat Trang in particular to develop truly effectively, contributing to promoting the country's economic and social development, while preserving and introducing the most unique cultural features to international friends, we need to have more in-depth research, investment, and development planning to promote the tourism potential of craft villages in a specific and effective way.
For the above reasons, I chose the topic " Bat Trang Pottery Village and its potential for tourism development " with the hope of contributing to introducing more about the oldest pottery village in Vietnam and offering some solutions to better exploit the potential of this traditional craft village to serve tourism development.
