Location of Formal and Informal Waste Transfer Stations in the Study Area

Cap Be (Bach Dang ward), Column 3 - Column 5 urban area (Hong Hai ward) and Column 5 - Column 8 urban area extension (Hong Ha ward).

Therefore, in addition to informal transfer stations in old residential areas, it is necessary to establish small-scale formal transfer stations by 2020 to serve new urban areas. At the same time, the establishment of small-scale transfer stations aims to contribute to improving the capacity of solid waste management for each area due to:

Reduce waiting time at loading and unloading points.

Increase the capacity of container handling instead of using existing compactors. In the future, compactors can be installed in small transfer stations to reduce the volume of waste before transport.

It is possible to do some preliminary sorting of waste before it is sent elsewhere.

Reduces the unsightly situation caused by garbage trucks waiting in line, and also prevents water from flowing out of garbage trucks and polluting the surrounding environment.

Proposed transfer station locations:

Since the locations of the unofficial transfer stations are kept the same as

existing transit locations. With the above analysis, Luan Van proposes the location

The official transfer stations are located in new urban areas as follows:

In Bach Dang ward: Choose a vacant land location in Lan Be Green Park, this location has vacant land and is near Hon Cap Be Residential Area. This is the location of a new park and residential area, in the future a densely populated residential area will be formed along with recreational activities in the park, which will be a large source of household solid waste in the future, so it is necessary to arrange a formal waste transfer station to facilitate the collection and collection of waste in this area. This area also has convenient traffic infrastructure for waste transportation (located between two routes of Ha Long city center, the coastal road and Le Thanh Tong street).

In Hong Hai ward: Choose a location next to Ha Long specialized school (located on Hai Long street). This area has many newly formed public works such as the Square, Ha Long specialized school, Provincial Museum, Provincial Library, Residential area surrounding Column 3... so a garbage transfer location is also needed to facilitate the collection and gathering of garbage by hand-pushed garbage collection vehicles in the area. Besides

In addition, the area is also located in a place with convenient traffic systems such as coastal roads and Nguyen Van Cu Street, convenient for garbage trucks to collect and transport garbage to the treatment area.

In Hong Ha ward: Choose the official transfer location No. 1 in the diagonal flower garden area opposite Le Thanh Tong school and near the Ha Long View luxury apartment building and the green apartment building. This area has 02 high-rise apartment buildings and residential areas belonging to the expanded urban area of column 5 - column 8. In the near future, there will be a high population density here. Official transfer location No. 2 is currently unofficial location No. 13 and official location No. 3 is currently unofficial location No. 12. These two locations have large areas located between densely populated residential areas, convenient traffic infrastructure, so they are suitable for choosing as official transfer station locations. The above transfer station locations are located near the coastal road, convenient for garbage collection by garbage trucks to collect and transport to the treatment area.

The specific locations of formal and informal waste transfer stations in the study area are summarized atTable 3.14and location map of transfer stations in the sectionAppendix 10 ,Appendix 12andAppendix 14 .

3.2.5. Proposed routes for transporting domestic solid waste

Domestic solid waste transportation activities in the study area include manual and mechanical transportation, specifically as follows:

- Manual transportation by hand-pushed garbage collection vehicles from residential areas to transfer stations.

- Mechanical transportation by 8 m3 garbage compactor will go to the garbage collection transfer stations at the prescribed time and transport to the landfill.

During the research, Luan Van found that garbage collection routes at the

Residential areas and hamlets (manual transportation by hand-pushed garbage trucks) in the study area are now reasonable. Therefore, in this content of the thesis, the author does not propose other garbage collection routes.

Besides, because the scope of the thesis research is only focused on 3/13

wards in the eastern area of Ha Long city, so the proposal of collection and transportation routes for domestic solid waste (by garbage compactors from transfer stations and transported to landfills) for the study area alone is not suitable for reality because the collection activities by these garbage compactors have been provided.

The approved shipping route includes the study area of the thesis and also

other areas not included in the research area of the Thesis. On the other hand, the above collection routes are also suitable and built based on the terrain characteristics of each ward with the transfer station locations arranged so that the collection routes achieve the highest productivity, the shortest travel route and time.

stops at each transfer station is minimal. Therefore, within the framework of the Law, no new collection route is proposed.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

1. Conclusion

After 6 months of conducting field surveys in 3 wards of Bach Dang, Hong Hai and Hong Ha, the 3 central wards of the East of Ha Long city, on the management of domestic waste, I have obtained the following conclusions:

The three wards of Bach Dang, Hong Hai and Hong Ha are the three central wards that are characterized by economic and commercial development (Bach Dang ward), characterized by urban and cultural development (Hong Hai ward) and characterized by urban and administrative development (Hong Ha ward). Therefore, the social life in these three wards is relatively high and the amount of solid waste generated in daily life is increasing. Results

Luan Van's survey and research shows that:

- Because these wards have a fairly similar standard of living, the amount of waste generated per capita is relatively similar at 1.01 kg/person/day.

- The amount of waste collected is currently quite high at about > 95%.

- Current household CTR is not classified at source.

Besides, Luan Van also has suggestions for the management of CTR activities.

effective in the study area as follows:

- Propose a model to classify waste at source in the research area into 3 types: organic waste (organic fertilizer production at Ha Long Waste Treatment Plant), recyclable waste (brought to recycling facilities) and remaining waste buried at Deo Sen landfill.

- Propose a plan for storing and collecting domestic solid waste. In the period from 2013-2015, apply the storage and collection model for each household. From 2015 to 2020: 240-liter trash bins are placed at fixed locations on the roads so that households can dump solid waste at any time of the day, avoiding storing solid waste indoors, causing unsanitary conditions.

- Proposed locations of domestic solid waste transfer stations in the study area include formal transfer stations and small informal transfer stations.

2. Recommendations

Based on the results achieved and the difficulties and problems in the work

waste management. The thesis has proposed solutions to contribute to improving the efficiency

waste management in particular and environmental protection in general. Luan makes some recommendations as follows:

application

- To effectively manage domestic solid waste, it is necessary to have the support and attention of local authorities, management units and the coordination of people and businesses.

- Regarding human resources and equipment: It is necessary to pay attention to and supplement the number of garbage collectors. To ensure the collection, transportation and treatment of garbage, it is necessary to pay more attention to garbage collectors by increasing salaries, having incentives, rewards and commendations for workers with high achievements and a sense of responsibility in their work. Therefore, it is necessary to promote and propagate for people to participate in paying fees in full. In addition, to improve, it is necessary to strengthen and invest in equipping more equipment and means to serve the collection and transportation of garbage in the study area.

- Propaganda and mobilization work: Instruct each household, each enterprise, and production and business establishment to develop measures to use recycled products. Increase mobilization of households that have not registered for collection, register for collection contracts as well as sign collection contracts with agencies and production enterprises to minimize the source of waste being thrown away haphazardly.

- Management: Strengthen collection, minimize the development of spontaneous landfills to limit environmental pollution caused by waste, on the other hand, beautify the urban landscape. There should be strict penalties for littering in the wrong places, in public places: streets, alleys, beaches, etc.
