Poetry style of Luu Quang Vu - 10

Love the old crocodile trees and the young royal poinciana trees

Love the sound of the train bell in the sunset

But his emotions were already so passionate, it was hard to make the poem any better. The sounds in the above verse did not need any loving words, but people felt overwhelmed with emotion, but in the next verse, even though there was “love”, people did not feel much love.

Maybe you are interested!

Although there are moments of disconnection like that, they are only a few rare passages. But almost every time he chases his emotions, Luu Quang Vu always catches up with the sudden, spontaneous vibrations. Images jostle, emotions surge, poetry seems to flow from the tip of the pen.

The sun has gradually set on the silent leaves

Poetry style of Luu Quang Vu - 10

The afternoon has darkened the green in the dark eyes The road has ended before the vast sea The hand has let go when the strings have just ended The wind has stopped at the end of space The rain has stopped in the depths of the earth The person has lived to the end of the years After infinity there will only be infinity

I still can't tell you that song is still unfinished...

(That song is still unfinished)

Even when we realize an arrangement, all the adjectives are in the past tense "was" , and then at the end of the poem, it switches to the future tense "will" , we still feel that everything is just a chase of words by Luu Quang Vu, he runs after, captures the images that flash through his mind, it seems like he only records them but does not put any effort. In many poems by Luu Quang Vu, we realize that the chases are sometimes so breathless.

On the roof, towering forests

Above the forest, the clouds drift Above the days, above all bitterness My poetry is the white clouds of my life

(White clouds of my life)

That is the poetic voice, also the poetic style of a poet who writes poetry purely based on talent, instinct and emotion, without any formal training, without being constrained by any rules. He writes poetry as a matter of chance, but that passion, placed in poems with proper rules and frameworks, still gives his poetry a very natural, lingering tone.

The afternoon falls, the birds fly, like a fleeting smile, like a newly risen moon, like a new love…

(Afternoon)

Luu Quang Vu has many good poetic ideas, poetic ideas that are formed right from emotions, images and language that flow on the page until the end of the poem. The most important thing in a poem is to have a concept. For many poets, they find the concept first and then complete the poem. But for Luu Quang Vu, this process seems to be the opposite, because his poems are too natural, with little arrangement or editing. It seems that when writing Ly Thuong Nhau , Luu Quang Vu did not think about the structure but completely let himself follow his emotions, a way of thinking with emotions as Anh Chi commented:

The skinny fingers of the rice branch I can no longer hold, where are they now?

Love each other

The winter afternoon song before the wet grass chicken

Golden legs shaking

The warm breath of the poem, the calm voice and the beautiful images, the nostalgic feelings about love flow gently, and when it stops, the poem is complete:

Stop loving me

Stop singing, don't choke in the wind. Let's love each other...

The poem Khuc Hat tells the story of a young man who is in love with a female opera singer, who carries his bag and wanders around looking for her - a story close to a fairy tale about love but embedded in it is a tribute to the ancient art of singing. The story is told in a graceful, deeply sad language, and ends with light and deep verses like a long breath, because the beauty of the past is still there but illusory, far away and impossible to reach:

What I believe in this world is no strange opera singer

Why do I still miss you?

Luu Quang Vu's infatuation was so strong that it pulled away the sobriety of reason. Intoxication sometimes makes people dizzy.

Once in the garden, the bee can't remember the way out... All my life I still don't understand why...

(Garden in the city)

When people call for poetry to be more passionate, each writer begins to awaken and become passionate in his own way, but there are also many who want to become passionate but cannot. Because passion is not something that people can achieve by trying. Therefore, Luu Quang Vu's passionate yet natural voice is very loved.

Dear. The great tree in the literary criticism world at that time was Hoai Thanh - who was very familiar with the passion and dreams in New Poetry - quoted Luu Quang Vu's poems and affirmed that they were all the crystallization of passion. It is understandable that people are passionate about beautiful happiness, but when suffering and in pain, his poems are still passionate. Passionate in torment, in anxiety, in restlessness.

The winter mist has quietly filled up So many memories, forget them, don't remember them anymore Leaves will fall on the grass that wears away the old path

The old tree trunk will collapse on the threshold

(Love poem about a woman without a name)

Passion became a characteristic throughout Luu Quang Vu's poetic life, a gift from God, and also his superiority.

In Vietnamese poetry, there are not many people who can do what Luu Quang Vu did. He wrote a lot, but it was not published. Knowing that, he still wrote. Accepting the fact that his poems were rejected, he still wrote as a personal need, a need to express and share. " I know my poems have not been published yet, but I always want to write poems... " Wanting to write poems, and writing poems passionately, creating passionate verses, that is truly a gift that Luu Quang Vu has given to life and those who love poetry.

3.2. How to perceive life

Passion also becomes a prism when Luu Quang Vu comes to this life and recreates it in poetry. Being sensitive, Luu Quang Vu captures reality through feelings, with his extremely delicate and rich senses. Reading Luu Quang Vu's poetry, it feels like this person always opens all his senses to perceive the scenery, life through all his feelings, all his vibrations.

Right in the first exciting years, Luu Quang Vu knew how to lead readers into a magical space right in the middle of the mundane life of a " Garden in the City " where readers can hear a symphony of images, colors (almost all seven colors of the rainbow converge in this poem), sounds (birds chirping, train whistles, rain, singing...), smells and touches that hit all the senses:

Purple flowers, chirping birds, sparsely leafed banyan trees in the sun... Round, plump fruit with growing sap

In this verse, vitality is most intense, full and complete with very suggestive adjectives "round, full, plump, fertile"... Then in that garden, everything is both dreamy, unreal, and sexy in romantic images of love with "gentle, moist lips ", vibrant brown skin, and the last image is " You are as cool as summer fruit ". That sincere yet equally sexy and attractive comparison shows the way of observing and feeling life of a person who is full of youth, a fresh heart with the first vibrations of life.

Not only does Luu Quang Vu open his heart, he also listens very deeply and carefully. Even the most ordinary and familiar sounds can become unique and different:

The sound of shuttles, machines running, and wheels turning. The sound of cabbages heavy on the shoulders and round, creaking.

The sound of clogs, the sound of laughter...

(On Long Bien Bridge)

In the morning, standing with the air defense soldier on Long Bien bridge, the young poet heard excitedly in his ears and excited in his heart all the familiar sounds of the beloved capital. There were sounds that were familiar in old poems such as the sound of " shuttles", "laughter ", and there were familiar but strange sounds such as " the sound of clogs" . The sound of clogs in his poems was crisp and clear, different from the sad, lonely, slow sound of clogs.

scattered in To Huu's poem " from afar on the road, I hear the sound of clogs coming home" from long ago;

The sound of round cabbage is a strange moving image that first appeared in Vietnamese poetry. That was when he stood on the sidelines and observed life during the resistance war and saw so much beauty and vitality. And when he directly participated in that life, he also felt that the path of resistance was so joyful and exciting:

The season of fighting the Americans, crossing the river of tears, But the hem of the shirt is not wet now

Just hear the loud singing

(Crossing the Thuong River)

The whole poem exudes a lightness and equanimity in the soul, reviving the joyful, heroic atmosphere, recalling the sounds of songs on the march of young soldiers.

Luu Quang Vu perceives life instinctively, with all his sensitive feelings. In his poems, not only the tastes and sounds, but especially the colors are always so vivid that they flutter:

Heavy rain on the streets, on the roofs.

Like a white waterfall breaking like the silver of the sky like a footprint

breast

I wiped the rain running down my face. I turned my head to look somewhere.

In the coffee shop song about the woman holding the apple.

The woman in the green shirt walks under the sea of yellow leaves…

(Heavy rain on the street on the roof)

At the age of 14, Luu Quang Vu showed a special love for painting. When teaching Luu Quang Vu, painter Nguyen Duc Nung often praised Luu Quang Vu for his unique and strange color scheme. He was one of three students he hoped would become a talented painter in the future. When he was in high school, Luu Quang Vu was also more interested in painting than anyone else. Luu Quang Vu's mother, Vu Thi Khanh, recalled that he often carried his easel and wandered around.

where he planned to take the entrance exam to the College of Fine Arts. Later, he could not pursue it to the end, but his artistic eye and the soul of an artist entered his poetry smoothly, so we always see in his poems blocks of color and shapes:

The long-billed birds flew across the big moon

The dark forest bathed in the red sunset, Screaming wildly under the hot night.

(The land of the monochord)

Luu Quang Vu writes very creatively, thanks to his talent for painting. Adding a precious word " nhong" has breathed into the night a primitive tropical atmosphere and the scene has become full of life. Even the most fastidious people cannot help but be satisfied with Luu Quang Vu's Dan Bau Country . From the knowledge in books, to the experiences in life, especially the great inspirations about the people and the country, Luu Quang Vu wrote this work with a prolific pen. In the process of " finding lost time ", he saw many images of the past:

The tribes I painted are full of dragons and snakes, Kissing on the banks of the Red River… Thatched roofs with tinder to keep the fire going, Women weaving grass and trees to cover their breasts

Interspersed with images of the present day.

The ground is covered with yellow Ngau flowers. The rain is falling, pattering.

Then there is still the beauty of the past:

Still have money to knock on the beat

The back of the bib is also purple.

Images of the past and present are interwoven into a multi-layered, multi-part structure. Luu Quang Vu's poetry always has to have an interweaving of colors and moods:

I lift up my hand The little globe

Green is the land, yellow is the ocean. Anxiety mixed with freshness.

(Celery)

“At 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the summer sun / Purple flowers bloomed all over the road” , eating a yellow melon with his girlfriend, a painter, Luu Quang Vu had strangely beautiful emotions and associations. Later, during a period of difficult life, Luu Quang Vu did many jobs to make a living, and there was a time when he lived by his own brush. It seemed like there was a paradox that he was passionately passionate and sacrificed everything for poetry but could not live by poetry, and there was a time when he was “betrayed” by poetry, and painting was abandoned by him, but not only did it feed him but also helped him write many beautiful verses and brilliant verses:

Place a few slices of pineapple on the plate.

Pure white salt, small bowl of red chili pepper, A few bunches of ripe yellow bananas on a bamboo stall, Brown gai cake tied with red strings like vermillion

(Small shop)

Subtle in perception, a soul full of desire for communication, and an innate artistic instinct have made Luu Quang Vu's poems always full of emotion. Humming, lingering in tone, lingering in images, and full of melody in poetic forms.
