INTRODUCTION

I- REASONS FOR CHOOSING THE TOPIC

1- In the movement of contemporary prose, short stories, although a “small genre” , have developed quite strongly and achieved many remarkable achievements. Vietnamese short stories in the renovation period have attracted the attention of many readers because of a series of young writers with abundant writing ability and constant creativity. This is a period when there is a profound awakening of personal consciousness in the writing community. Each writer wants to have his own exploration of ideology and art. Therefore, in literary life, a series of unique personalities and styles appear.

2- Each artist feels about the objective real world differently, so the reproduction and reflection are also different. The only basis for examining and identifying their realistic picture is the work of art. Their own mark is the foundation for them to build their own artistic world, creating unique aesthetic signs that make up the writer's style. Phan Thi Vang Anh is one of the young writers of modern Vietnamese literature, alongside prominent names such as Nguyen Ngoc Tu, Y Ban, Nguyen Binh Phuong, Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, Ngo Phan Luu, etc. Although she has just appeared, Phan Thi Vang Anh has been known by many people with many different genres such as poetry, short stories, film scripts, skits, essays... and most recently, modern documentary films. In that versatile face, there is always a sharp, delicate and contemporary spirit of the writer. In just a short time, Phan Thi Vang Anh has consecutively received many awards for works in the following genres:

Award of the Vietnam Writers Association in 1994 for the story collection When People Are Young.

First prize for very short story of New World magazine - 1995 for the work Late Flowers.

Hanoi Writers Association Award for the poetry collection Send to VB.

3- Choosing the topic Characteristics of Phan Thi Vang Anh's short stories , the thesis wants to highlight the unique ideological and artistic values in the works of this young writer.

II- HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM

1- Phan Thi Vang Anh was born in 1968, the daughter of poet Che Lan Vien and writer Vu Thi Thuong. Graduated from the University of Medicine and became a general practitioner, but Phan Thi Vang Anh chose the path of literature. A young talent, a writer with a long tradition who was established right from her first collection of stories, Phan Thi Vang Anh has become a valuable writer of contemporary Vietnamese literature, contributing to creating a new look for literature since 1986.

Phan Thi Vang Anh first came to literature by writing poetry, writing a lot and writing very naturally. Vang Anh wrote stories published in the Red Scarf newspaper. Immediately after graduating from the University of Medicine, Vang Anh published the story collection When People Are Young and the collection immediately caused public opinion. This book was awarded by the Vietnam Writers Association in 1994. Two years later she became a member of the Writers Association.

Phan Thi Vang Anh was once evaluated as “a versatile short story writer, sometimes solemn, sometimes sharp and sweet, sometimes passionate....Phan Thi Vang Anh's writing style is explosive, bearing the mark of a mature person...” (15.6). “Vang Anh has precise thinking...her thinking is as fast as lightning, as sharp as a knife and as sharp as a needle...”.

Main works:

When People Are Young (Collection of Stories 1993) was translated and published in France. At Home (Story-1994)
