Directions for Promoting Traditional Ethical Values for Building a New Lifestyle for Students in the Current Context of Globalization

Firstly , the tendency to absolutize the role of traditional moral values that were appropriate in previous historical periods is to impose them as is, mechanically, and consider them as unchanging standards to be copied and imitated, leading to restoration and conservatism in the process. That can lead to changes in student lifestyles in a deviant, distorted, and distorted direction...

Love for humanity, mutual support, and “helping each other in times of need” are good traditions that need to be inherited and promoted. However, nowadays, many people express their love by covering up and concealing the wrongdoings, even crimes, of their relatives and friends. This is evident in many students, such as being willing to cover up and not reporting each other’s cheating in exams, ignoring or concealing their friends’ crimes, and willing to help their friends lie to their parents to go out and play... These are negative manifestations that need to be promptly overcome. Only then can we preserve the beautiful nature of traditional moral values.

The virtue of diligence in labor is a beautiful trait in the Vietnamese character. However, the extreme notion of “diligence makes up for intelligence”, “ants carry a nest for a long time” makes people easily fall into empiricism, disregard and ignore the creative element in labor. Especially young students with enthusiasm, passion, and creativity are easily considered “smarter than ducks”, “young horses eager to kick”... Meanwhile, reality shows that innovations and new discoveries become breakthroughs, bringing great progress in production and business.

According to Lenin, prolonging yesterday's advantages will become today's disadvantages. If good traditional moral values are radicalized, they can also become anti-values, creating risks and hindering the process of forming a new lifestyle today.

Second : the tendency to worship foreign countries, disregard and deny traditional moral values, and pursue a pragmatic and individualistic lifestyle.

Globalization is becoming an inevitable trend for every country that wants to join and develop. Globalization is putting before us the problem of gain and loss. The opportunities are huge, the gains are also many, that is access and

Directions for Promoting Traditional Ethical Values for Building a New Lifestyle for Students in the Current Context of Globalization

Taking advantage of capital, scientific and technological achievements from developed economies, is the exchange and assimilation of human civilization values... However, globalization also puts us at risk of many dangers: economic dependence, cultural hybridity, loss of national identity... Commenting on this issue, Resolution of the Central Committee V (8th term) affirmed: "The evil of worshipping foreign countries, disregarding national cultural values, pursuing a pragmatic, individualistic, selfish lifestyle... is harming the nation's fine traditions and customs" [27, p.46].

The influence of foreign culture, ethics, and lifestyle, especially Western lifestyle, on many people, including students, is relatively obvious. When we worship foreign things, we consider everything foreign to be wonderful, thus unconsciously belittling our own values and those of our nation.

From distorted life concepts, there have been more and more anti-value phenomena in social life. The phenomenon of cohabitation among young people, including students, has become a trend. Many male and female students rent a house to live together as husband and wife, and then when they get bored with each other, each quickly packs their suitcases and goes to find a "new life". This phenomenon is becoming a very popular trend among young people such as workers away from home and especially a large number of students. Currently, this issue is attracting a lot of public attention, especially students, and it has also been hotly debated on forums and has consumed a lot of ink from journalists. It has invisibly become a hot topic, a "fashion" that spreads at a dizzying speed with the name "Cohabitation" or "contributing rice to cook rice together". Perhaps we will think that the phrase "Living together" is not in the Vietnamese dictionary and it is true that in Vietnamese culture, living together is a relatively new concept, but it has appeared for a long time in Western countries in the 60s and 70s of the last century, originating from the sexual revolution. And when our country was on the path of opening up to the world, foreign cultural values and lifestyles were also introduced into the country and living together was no exception with the development of the country.

With information technology, it is easier for people to update or access new things, so it is obvious that this lifestyle is becoming more and more popular among young people.

However, from the perspective of many people, this Western lifestyle is completely incompatible with the living culture as well as the long-standing traditional values in the relationship between men and women, husband and wife of Eastern people in general and Vietnamese people in particular. Living together will lose the values of love, making love no longer beautiful and pure. Moreover, love in living together always goes hand in hand with sex and perhaps many young people live together for the purpose not entirely because of love, but partly to satisfy their own needs, which has changed the inherent nature of true love. But there are also many opinions that living together is normal, two people like each other, love each other and then they move in together. If they are compatible, they continue the relationship, otherwise they break up without the other person having to be responsible for them. According to them, as society develops, people also have more open ways of living and thinking about issues, especially male-female relationships. And living together is a modern, realistic lifestyle, not a social evil or an unhealthy lifestyle as people think, and they hope that society will no longer criticize but will gradually accept this lifestyle.

Many young people nowadays do not choose parks or tree roots as places to confide, instead they choose motels, which are both private and "comfortable"... The manifestations of this lifestyle show moral degradation, distance, and discontinuity with tradition among students. This is really a hot issue, raised in the process of building a new lifestyle for today's students, requiring timely attention and resolution.

Chapter 4

ORIENTATIONS AND SOME MAIN SOLUTIONS TO PROMOTE TRADITIONAL ETHICAL VALUES OF THE NATION IN BUILDING A NEW LIFESTYLE FOR VIETNAMESE STUDENTS IN THE CURRENT CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

4.1. ORIENTATIONS FOR PROMOTING TRADITIONAL MORAL VALUES IN BUILDING NEW LIFESTYLES FOR STUDENTS IN THE CURRENT CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

4.1.1. Ensuring unity between tradition and modernity, inheritance and innovation in promoting traditional ethical values to build a new lifestyle for students in the current context of globalization

Tradition, in terms of characteristics, is what has become relatively stable and sustainable, recognized by the majority of society, and has been deeply imprinted in the psychology and habits of people from generation to generation. The strength of tradition lies in the fact that it is a psychological phenomenon, existing as an innate instinct, urging from within, making people's daily actions expressed comfortably. Today, in the new revolutionary period, it is required to promote tradition to actively contribute to the revolution in the field of cultural ideology and to build a new lifestyle for Vietnamese students. But the question is, what heritages do we inherit and abandon? This is a practical problem that needs to be solved, but also very difficult. Tradition is not something that moves immediately into people, but is only material that must be transformed and raised to become factors in the structure of the system of human personality factors. This change today is in the interaction with modern factors in our country and in the world. That is, we must pay attention to modern factors in inheriting and innovating traditional moral values in educating students about ethics and lifestyle.

In the current conditions of openness, integration, globalization and information explosion, it is inevitable that we must combine traditional ethical values.

with modern ethical values, to elevate those values to a new level.

As affirmed, patriotism is the core value in the system of moral and spiritual values of the Vietnamese people. However, along with the changes of history, patriotism must also be supplemented and developed to suit the requirements of each historical period. Faced with the new requirements of current reality, the spirit of patriotism and revolutionary heroism in the past struggle against foreign invaders must now be transformed into the will to master science and technology, enrich oneself, one's family and society, determined to achieve the goal: "Rich people, strong country, fair, democratic and civilized society"; determined not to lose the country, not to be enslaved, not to accept poverty, backwardness and dependence.

Nowadays, patriotism means resolutely fighting corruption, smuggling, drugs and social evils - these negative phenomena are becoming more and more painful in society, eroding traditional moral values every day, every hour, hindering the process of building a new lifestyle for young students, threatening social security, and deviating from socialism.

Patriotism today is also a high sense of national pride. That is the great inner strength that helps us defeat the enemy, overcome all difficulties and challenges. The sense of pride in national traditions must be associated with the sense of self-reliance, self-strengthening, the sense of rising up with one's own feet and strength, not pessimistic, discouraged but also not delusional, subjective, aiming towards the goal of building a better and better society.

The humane tradition of our nation is a favorable factor for absorbing the humane values of humanity, creating new values suitable for the development of the times. In the previous period, humaneness was only helping, sharing food, clothes in times of trouble, but did not create conditions for others to rise up and take control of their own lives. In the current conditions, loving people means creating

conditions for people to develop all personal abilities, stimulate human creativity. For students, this is a very important issue, they can only develop their great potential and creativity when they are given conditions, when they are trained and challenged in practical activities. Only when they are trusted and given responsibility can they truly have the wings to fly high and far.

On the other hand, in the context of globalization today, compassion is not only limited to the scope of a country or nation, but requires expansion on a global scale so that people can come closer together, together solving global problems such as: protecting nature, protecting the environment, ecosystems, fighting diseases, fighting war and terrorism... for the happiness and future of humanity. Helping students realize their role and responsibility in implementing these issues is also a requirement in building a new lifestyle for students.

With the spirit of solidarity, the Vietnamese people have won many victories against the enemy, overcome many difficulties to maintain and develop society. In the life, activities and study of students, the spirit of solidarity is indispensable, but we must also pay attention to avoid being abused. Among students, there is no phenomenon of covering up each other's shortcomings, covering up each other's improper behaviors, uncultured behaviors...

Traditional moral values, if not unified, combined with new values, supplemented in innovation and raised to a new level to meet the demands of history and society, will cause obstacles, creating conflicts between the weight and power of tradition and the requirements of innovation of current society; between the patterns and models handed down by the past and the ability to be creative, adaptable, and oriented towards the future.

In short, thoroughly grasping the viewpoint of ensuring unity between tradition and modernity, inheritance and innovation in educating traditional moral values to build a new lifestyle for students must ensure the following requirements:

- Education of patriotic traditions and national spirit associated with love for socialism, love for the people, and service to the people.

- Educating the spirit of community solidarity associated with the spirit of international solidarity.

- Education of courage, tradition of humanity, loyalty, desire for peace, love of learning and respect for talented people is closely linked to education of socialist humanism and new socialist lifestyle.

- Educating the tradition of hard work, creativity, optimism, thrift, overcoming difficulties, modesty, honesty associated with the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility, daring to fight, daring to accept competition in the market economy.

4.1.2. Promoting traditional moral values in building a new lifestyle for students associated with the goal of building modern, comprehensive students

Regarding the education of tradition and sense of responsibility for the youth, V. Lenin affirmed:

The education of youth is not a matter of giving them soft speeches or moral rules; that is not education. When one sees how one's parents lived under the yoke of the landlords and the bourgeoisie, when one suffers with those who initiated the struggle against the exploiters, when one sees what great sacrifices are required to continue the struggle in order to defend the victories won by one's fathers and brothers, and sees clearly what cruel people the landlords and the bourgeoisie are, then one trains oneself in this environment to become a communist [80, p.351].

Creatively applying the Marxist-Leninist viewpoint in both perception and practical revolutionary activities, Ho Chi Minh became a shining example of inheriting and promoting the fine traditional moral values of the nation.
