The Difference Between The Tale of Kieu and The Novel Talented Women - Seen From the Concept of Beauty.

What a talented man and beautiful woman!

Chau Tran, there is no better Chau Tran.

This kind of love is not much different from the love between the talented actor Nguyen Du who loved to sing in the fabric village, went to Truong Luu to sing in the fabric village and left a wound in the heart of the fabric village girl whose song still remains today:

Truong Luu village is peaceful,

Maybe you are interested!

Nguyen Du used to have a deep affection for this place.

Famous for beautiful girls and talented men,

The Difference Between The Tale of Kieu and The Novel Talented Women - Seen From the Concept of Beauty.

Thousands of years of cultural relics shine in history.

Commenting on these talented couples, Mr. Tran Nho Thin said: “There may be some humor in the poet’s writing about Thuc Sinh, but there is sufficient basis to say that Nguyen Du also respected and cared for the couple Thuy Kieu - Thuc Sinh. Perhaps in the Tale of Kieu , there is no separation that Nguyen Du described as poignantly as Kieu - Thuc Sinh’s separation… the couple Thuc Sinh - Thuy Kieu was also introduced by Nguyen Du as solemnly as Kim Trong - Thuy Kieu, Tu Hai - Thuy Kieu. If “the national beauty and the genius” is the evaluation of Kim Trong - Thuy Kieu, “The heroic man and the boatwoman” is the praise of Tu Hai - Thuy Kieu, then “Truly talented, there is no better Chau Tran than Chau Tran” is the praise Nguyen Du borrowed from the mandarin’s mouth to talk about Thuc Sinh - Thuy Kieu… the main characters in the portraits have physical colors with clear affirmation inspiration. The body is not the source of suffering, nor is it a sign of inferiority. The body is part of the personality.” [52, pp. 429, 430].

In our opinion, in essence, the love between Thuc Sinh and Thuy Kieu is a sublimation from “character” to “love”, because at first Thuc Sinh came to Kieu, first of all because of “character”, then because of “love” ( Early peaches and evening plums, before the moon and wind, later the golden stone). Perhaps, Nguyen Du described the love between Kieu and Thuc under this inspiration, looking from this inspiration. The origin of this inspiration was probably due to his life experiences since childhood. And he saw a true free love coming from both Kieu and Thuc Sinh. The sublimation of both “character” and “love”.

3.5. Differences between The Tale of Kieu and the novel about talented men and beautiful women- seen from the concept of beauty.

First of all, let us briefly review the aesthetic characteristics and concepts of beauty in Chinese novels about talented men and beautiful women. As we have presented above, researcher Dong Yan believes that the unique aesthetic characteristics of novels about talented men and beautiful women are that novels about talented men and beautiful women have written an ideal spiritual literature, which does not take reality as its guiding principle but rather, on an ideal structure, the talented man proceeds to edit the content of reality to conform to that ideal. The objective aesthetic ideal must go through the process of beautification and refinement to form an ideal spirit and a perfect realm. The realization in the work is a three-step narrative model, the last step of which is the great reunion. Moreover, this concept of beauty also governs the character building: the perfect talented man and beautiful woman, the perfect love. In short, the beauty in novels about talented men and beautiful women is absolute beauty, the beauty is only most beautiful when the great reunion occurs, or in other words, this beauty is the beauty that only exists in the ideal. This is the traditional cultural and literary thinking of both China and Vietnam ( Hoa Tien, Phan Tran and So Kinh Tan Trang, Nom stories...).

The aesthetic concept in the tradition of talented and beautiful novels, in the tradition of Nom poetic stories with happy endings, the aesthetic concept in national literary thinking was "bent " by Nguyen Du (using Duong Ngoc Dung's words). The beauty in the Tale of Kieu , the ideal character is no longer absolute beauty, the beauty lies in what was previously considered the character's defect; the beauty is not only spiritual virginity, ideal love, but also includes sensual beauty, lust, true free love; the beauty is no longer great reunion, but beauty is the unfinished, the end but not the end. This is Nguyen Du's new perception of love and life. This perception is due to his own observation and experience in life.

The beauties in the novels of talented men and beautiful women such as Son Dai, Lanh Giang Tuyet ( Binh Son Lanh Yen ), Dao Tien, Ngoc Khanh ( Hoa Tien ), Tran Kieu Lien ( Phan Tran )... are all perfectly beautiful, in addition to poetic talent and beauty, loyalty, especially the word "virginity" is a crucial factor (Ngoc Khanh committed suicide right after her parents married her off to someone else, after hearing the news of Phuong Chau's death). If Kieu in Kim Van Kieu

The story , in the love affairs with Thuc Sinh, Tu Hai... is just the process of testing the word "virginity", to later return to reunite with Kim Trong, showing that she is a virtuous woman, "physically lustful but not mentally lustful", on the contrary, in the love affairs with Kim Trong, Tu Hai, especially Thuc Sinh - Thuc Sinh is a character criticized as not worthy of Kieu because of his weakness, then Nguyen Du, he focused on describing, praising Kieu's natural feelings, natural emotions in all three love affairs, in which the love affair with Thuc Sinh, marking the climax in the farewell scene, was especially noteworthy.

Kieu experienced countless humiliations, " twice in a brothel, twice in a green dress ", but in Kim Trong's eyes, Kieu was still justified with noble beauty: " Like her, she took filial piety as her chastity; that chastity also has three or seven paths ". In Thuc Sinh's eyes, Kieu was a flawless gem (at this time Kieu was already a prostitute, having been through the hands of both Ma Giam Sinh and So Khanh): (See the above section, we compare with the original Kim Van Kieu story ).

Clearly in the ivory white jade Thick thick ready cast a natural building.

It was this natural, sensual physical beauty that led to Thuc Sinh's change of mind:

Early morning peaches, late evening plums lingering, Before the moon and wind, later the golden rocks appear.

But more importantly, in Nguyen Du's eyes, Kieu was completely beautiful. Nguyen Du ignored all of Kieu's previous regrets. He devoted all his best to praising Kieu - Thuc's love. In this love, Nguyen Du still called Kieu a true beauty:

What a talented man and beautiful woman!

Chau Tran, there is no better Chau Tran.

In all three love affairs that Kieu experienced, from the love affair with the talented and beautiful Kim, the romantic love affair with Thuc Sinh, the love affair with the hero Tu Hai, Kieu devoted herself, lived her life to the fullest with love, with her lover, enjoyed love, especially the love in these love affairs was natural love, instinctive love. The important thing is that in every love affair Kieu was sincere, in every love affair Kieu was loyal, determined to live.

die, give your all to love. In short, Kieu always has the consciousness to live fully, giving all the best things to it. With Kim Trong, Kieu always gives him the most beautiful and sacred things. To enjoy love with Kim, although at first Kieu was shy like other beauties, but when "received as if opening her heart", Kieu was conscious of the love that was happening, grasping it:

The outer door quickly drew the silk curtain

Walking alone through the garden path.

Kieu also did not hide her true love, affirming that she loved, she had to enjoy love: " Because of flowers, I had to find flowers ". Kieu's will to Kim Trong, according to researchers, did not come from the constraints of etiquette but from the reality of life that Kieu observed. Kieu preserved was to preserve for Kim Trong, so that Kim Trong would respect her. And in reality, when unfortunately losing her virginity, Kieu thought very humanly, regretting that she did not give the most precious thing to the person she loved, which means giving her all to love, enthusiastically enjoying love.

Know your place to go astray

Peach blossoms are better broken for a common lover.

Kieu's thoughts are like any other normal girl. Even though her body is no longer intact, Kieu still gives the best to Kim Trong: " I still have a little bit of virginity left ". Nguyen Du's attitude towards this love is a clear attitude of praise: " As she takes filial piety as virginity, the word virginity also has three or seven ways "

The love story of Kieu and Tu Hai is also a beautiful love story. There, Kieu also lives her life to the fullest with love, that is, Kieu enjoys everything that is happening with Tu Hai: " the heart of a woman is also moved by a hero", "Both sides look at each other, both hearts love each other". "The private room is repaired to a place of leisure - Place the bed of eight treasures surrounding the curtain of eight immortals".

If the love between Kieu and Kim Trong is a "pure love" love, the love with Tu Hai is actually Kieu looking for a support rather than finding love, then the love between Kieu and Thuc Sinh is the only love in the Tale of Kieu . Although at first Thuc Sinh came to Kieu only because of "moonlighting", but later it turned into "golden stone". As we said above, the nature of the love between Thuc Sinh and Thuy Kieu is the direct relationship from "character" to "love".

Coming to Thuc Sinh, Kieu seemed to "learn a lesson", all the most beautiful things Kieu "reserved" for Thuc Sinh. First of all, Kieu's "spotless" body:

Clearly in the ivory white jade Thick thick ready cast a natural building .

Kieu wanted to live fully, to enjoy her love with Thuc Sinh forever, so Kieu advised Thuc Sinh to go and probe Hoan Thu's attitude. Looking at the love between Kieu and Thuc Sinh from Nguyen Du's perspective, Mr. Tran Nho Thin wrote: "Perhaps in the Tale of Kieu , there is no separation that Nguyen Du describes as poignantly as Kieu and Thuc Sinh... the separation is truly lingering and lingering" [52, p. 429]. The reason for lingering and lingering is because this is the first time Kieu has lived a natural love that is truly complete, a love that is linked to physical sensations, it is not the kind of "love" that occurs in ceremonies, waiting for the wedding to "consummate the marriage". Therefore, in the separation, it is not only "profound", "reluctant", "reluctant", but also extremely beautiful. Because it is beautiful, it is "reluctant", "reluctant". A fragile hope for a "brighter" future. Only a true, sincere love, originating from both sides, a perfect, spiritual and physical fusion can have such a "profound" separation." Therefore, Nguyen Du cherished the love of Thuy Kieu - Thuc Sinh even though Thuc Sinh seems to us today not to be truly worthy of Kieu. It seems that Thuc Sinh is the one who knows how to truly appreciate Kieu's physical beauty, and therefore, their feelings are also very passionate. There is no separation in The Tale of Kieu that Nguyen Du describes as well and as poignantly as the separation scene between Kieu and Thuc Sinh" [52, p. 272]:

- Holding hands long and short sighing,

The separation stops, the cup comes together, and the words are choked.

- One gets on the horse, the other divides the clothes.

The autumn maple forest has dyed the color of the mountains and rivers.

Miles of pink dust roll up to conquer peace,

The person who left has left thousands of green mulberry trees.

One returns in the shadow of the fifth watch, the other travels thousands of miles alone and far away.

Who splits the moon in two?

Half printed on the pillow, half shining on the long journey!

As we have analyzed above, the love story of Kieu - Thuc is the only true love story in the Tale of Kieu . Here we think we should stop to analyze more deeply and explain the motive why Nguyen Du describes the love story of Thuy Kieu and Thuc Sinh so poignantly. Because clarifying this issue will show us the change in Nguyen Du's perception of love compared to the cultural tradition, Chinese talented men and beautiful women novels and the cultural tradition, Vietnamese Nom poetry stories. What we note is that, if the love story between Thuy Kieu - Thuc Sinh in the original work is an event to test the word "virginity" of the beauty Vuong Thuy Kieu, increasing the drama and suspense to attract readers, then with Nguyen Du, this love story is what he devoted a lot of effort to and described it as the experience of real life. (We will prove it below). Moreover, one thing we need to pay attention to is that Nguyen Du praised the love story of Kieu

- Thuc Sinh did not praise Thuc Sinh as a person, which shows that he paid more attention to love and emotions than to judging Thuc Sinh from a moral point of view.

The first thing to affirm is that Nguyen Du devoted a lot of effort to the description of the love between Thuy Kieu and Thuc Sinh, especially the part from when the mandarin decided the case for the couple to reunite until Kieu escaped to Chieu Am Am. Mr. Phan Ngoc had an interesting comparison and statistics: “In the Tale of Kieu , there is only one plot, which is Hoan Thu's plot to torture Kieu. Not only that, the author gave it a greater position than in the Kim Van Kieu story . In the Kim Van Kieu story , from when the mandarin decided the case for the couple to reunite until Kieu escaped to Chieu Am Am, it only accounts for 12.5% of the work, on the contrary, in Kieu, this is the longest part of her wandering life, accounting for 576 sentences (17.7% of the work). That is, the scene of a woman being a prostitute is not much, the scene of becoming a nun is an exception, on the contrary, the scene of being a concubine is a scene that threatens all women” [28, p. 104]. The outstanding feature in the above description is that, on the one hand, Nguyen Du strongly praises Kieu Thuc's love, on the other hand, Nguyen Du's Kieu is always troubled, even worried and subconsciously afraid of how to deal with Hoan Thu.

- Eavesdropping on the elders in the house,

stay in line, speak out

I see extraordinary hearts, easy to fathom the ocean, immeasurable the river bottom

- She said: - The mountains and rivers are far away, If the inside is warm, then the outside will be peaceful.

We have a little love for each other,

Come home first and tell me the truth.

Even when the storm is fierce and powerful, I accept my fate. Rather than hiding things,

Bring terrible things back later.

First of all, we will explain the motives that Nguyen Du so strongly praised the love story of Thuy Kieu - Thuc Sinh. First of all, as we have mentioned not really focused in chapter one and some small parts in chapter two and chapter three, the brothel space is the only space where people, especially talented people, are free, because there is no moral constraint and legal responsibility if there is a physical relationship with the opposite sex. There, initially and most commonly, the relationship between the prostitute and the customer is based only on money for the prostitute and on the need to solve sexual problems for the men. Therefore, this is also the most equal environment in terms of this criterion in traditional society. Outside the brothel, there is no

any equality between men and women. Only equality can create true love, because there is no coercion but only consent. Thuc Sinh came to Kieu initially for this purpose. But a more important reason is that only in the brothel is there an environment where there is free, realistic love between the rich guests and the prostitutes. Because, as a man in a traditional society, anyone must fulfill their duty and responsibility to their clan and family, which is to get married and have sons. Thus, the criterion of marriage is not love but the ability to reproduce. Therefore, between husband and wife, there is no such thing as love, even the so-called "sex" no longer exists, because "sex" is the satisfaction of sexual needs of both men and women, but this sex only satisfies men. Therefore, marriage is the matter of parents, the matter of two families. The parents took care of who they married, the date and time, the man and woman did not know, even when they were in the bridal chamber, they were respectful and respectful to each other. From this perspective, we can see that there was no love between Thuc Sinh and Hoan Thu. Therefore, it was completely normal for Thuc Sinh to seek out famous courtesans. However, as mentioned above, courtesans and rich guests had relationships based on money and the satisfaction of their sexual needs, so it was very difficult for true love to arise. Moreover, courtesans were always equipped with careful precautions against guests, because they received countless guests every day, and their status was difficult to predict. In particular, if they were noblemen, would they go to the brothel? Therefore, it is not simple to say that the space of the brothel and the relationship between courtesans and rich men gave rise to true love. But, it must be said that the most beautiful love stories in the history of Chinese literature mostly appear with the names of courtesans such as: Ly Su Su and Yen Thanh, Kieu and Thuc Sinh are such types and it is not by chance that in the fifty thousand Tang poems, there are two thousand articles about courtesans (According to Ancient China's Hundred Colors - Van Uyen , Dai Duong Ban, editor-in-chief, Dong Phuong Publishing Center, 1998, p. 43). The mechanism for this love to arise lies in the qualities and spirit of the courtesan and the talented. The talented have two illnesses: because of talent, they are arrogant and easily sympathetic. Because of talent, the talented only associates with people in the same situation and who are talented. Faced with the situation and talent of the courtesan, it is easy for the talented to sympathize with the talented and
