INTRODUCTION


1. Reason for choosing the topic

From the end of the 18th century to the first half of the 19th century, it is considered a period of many strong events. The feudal regime was increasingly in crisis. In a short period of time, many dynasties rose and fell: Le, Trinh, Tay Son, Lord Nguyen. Many uprisings broke out everywhere, typically the Tay Son uprising led by Quang Trung. This was also a period that witnessed the decline of Confucianism. If in the 15th century, Confucianism once held a unique position, then in the 16th - 17th centuries, Confucianism became increasingly shaky and in the 18th - 19th centuries, it almost completely collapsed. It can be said that the contradictions in society during this period became more intense than ever. The king and his subjects were mixed up, society was decadent, morality and ethics were reversed, "the lord encroached on the king, killed the king, the elder lord killed the younger lord, the subject stripped the gold and clothes of the lord" [16, 60]. That caused people to fall into an unprecedented crisis, especially the Confucian intellectuals. The changing times caused them to become mentally in crisis, confused in their thoughts, unable to find a direction for themselves, most of them carrying their own sadness. Among them, we must mention Nguyen Du, Nguyen Cong Tru, Nguyen Khuyen, Ngo Thoi Nham... And Doan Nguyen Tuan is considered one of the intellectuals with common characteristics with the authors in this period, however, he was not included in the general education curriculum, so he became unfamiliar. Learning about Doan Nguyen Tuan partly helps us have a general view of the author, his works and at the same time have a broader view of this period.

The problem of individual human beings in ancient literature is now of interest to many researchers. There has been a specialized research work on the problem.

This is: About the individual in ancient Vietnamese literature . However, to date there has not been any specialized research on the individual in Doan Nguyen Tuan's poetry and literature. Choosing this topic, the author of the thesis wants to learn more deeply about the issue of the individual in Doan Nguyen Tuan's poetry and literature through the ideological content and expressive artistic form, and at the same time reaffirm the values ​​and contributions of Doan Nguyen Tuan in developing the content of the individual in medieval Vietnamese literature.

As a student of the Faculty of Literature and also a future literature teacher, it is extremely necessary to have an overview of Vietnamese literary authors in general and medieval literature in particular. Researching the individual in the poetry and literature of Doan Nguyen Tuan will be an important bridge to contribute to supplementing knowledge for the learning and teaching process of the individual in the future.

Based on the above reasons, we chose the topic "Studying the individual in Doan Nguyen Tuan's poetry and literature" for our thesis.

2. Problem history

Studying and evaluating the personality in Doan Nguyen Tuan’s poetry and literature is a work that has been of interest to a number of researchers, but there has not been any specialized research work. The research has only stopped at a few comments on the life, career as well as an overview of the content and art expressed in Doan Nguyen Tuan’s poetry and literature. Some of the following research works can be mentioned:

Tran Van Giap in Brief Biographies of Vietnamese Writers , volume 1, History Publishing House, 1971, briefly presented the biography of Doan Nguyen Tuan and the work Hai Ong Thi Tap [5].

The Institute of Han Nom Studies with Doan Nguyen Tuan's Poetry and Literature - Hai Ong Poetry Collection , Social Sciences Publishing House, Hanoi, 1982 also mentioned the biography of Doan Nguyen Tuan and some of his works [1].

Nguyen Loc in Tay Son Literature , introduced the background and career of Doan Nguyen Tuan with the comment: “He was one of the few people who only served as mandarins under the Tay Son dynasty. That proves that his feelings for the Tay Son dynasty were warm… Like many other poets of the Tay Son period, his poetry was optimistic, clearly expressing the spirit of pride in the Tay Son dynasty” [8, 275]. The author also quoted 48 poems in Hai Ong Thi Tap to compare with the versions of Cuu Han Lam Doan Nguyen Tuan Thi Tap , Truong Mong Mai Thi , Nhat Nam Phong Nha Thong Bien.

Nguyen Tuan Luong, with the article “Doan Nguyen Tuan, the man and his poetry” in the book Famous People of Thai Binh , volume 2, (Thai Binh Department of Culture and Information), also devoted attention to researching Doan Nguyen Tuan. This is considered a fairly large-scale article (46 pages). In addition to introducing the biography and career of Doan Nguyen Tuan, the article also raises a number of issues about his personality through his poetry and literature. According to Nguyen Tuan Luong, “Doan Nguyen Tuan’s personality is also clearly shown through his poetry and literature. Through Hai Ong poetry collection and nine other versions, poet Hai Ong has shown his profound generosity, simple thoughtfulness, closeness to the masses, and love for his homeland. He revealed a talent for skillful and pure poetry and literature, with a unique and subtle way of looking at things” [10, 118]. The author of the article commented: "Another aspect that is also quite prominent in Hai Ong's poetry is: pride in the nation, the country, the people and customs of Vietnam" [10, 122].

Ta Ngoc Lien in Portrait of Vietnamese Culture , Thanh Nien Publishing House, Hanoi, 1998, also mentioned Doan Nguyen Tuan and made sharp and subtle comments: "Reading Doan Nguyen Tuan's poems, we encounter a heart rich in emotions, a rich and sensitive soul to world affairs, always attached to social life, to the homeland" [7, 300]. The author also introduced some poems in Hai Ong Thi Tap such as Xich Bich Hoai Co, Dang Hoang
