SUMMARY
The slugfish Sillago sihama (Forsskal, 1775) belongs to the family Sillaginidae, order fercifomes, a valuable benthic fish species in coastal areas. The slugfish samples used for the study were collected periodically every month from December 2014 to June 2015 in Tran De district - Soc Trang. Then they were kept cold and transferred to the laboratory of the Faculty of Applied Biology - Tay Do University for analysis.
The analysis results of 551 octopus samples with length from 9.5cm - 25cm corresponding to weight from 5.71g - 149g showed that the fish has a slightly flattened body, small pointed mouth, quite large fins, with 2 dorsal fins: the first dorsal fin has 9 - 11 soft rays, the second dorsal fin has 1 hard spine and 19 - 21 soft rays. On the first gill arch, the octopus has 8 - 14 gill rakers.
The mouth of the octopus has a retractable lower border, small and smooth teeth, short esophagus, sac-shaped stomach, short, folded intestine with many folds on the inner surface (RLG correlation index = 0.46 ± 0.09). The structure of the digestive system is suitable for omnivorous fish with a tendency towards animals.
The main food components of sardines include crustaceans, fish, and worms. Of which crustaceans account for the highest proportion of 27.45%, worms 23.31%, and fish 21.26%.
The research results showed that the male to female ratio of mullet was 1: 1.04, the average absolute fecundity was 19,659 ± 7887 eggs/fish and the average relative fecundity was 324.
± 113 eggs/g female fish.
Based on the results of the study on fatness and the results of the study on the sexual maturity coefficient of sardines of both sexes, we can predict that the main spawning season of sardines is in April, May, June (the beginning of the rainy season every year).
