Planning Special Tourism Programs for Hung Yen City

The tours are built mainly to welcome visitors from the Red River Delta, especially Hanoi visitors, so the length of stay is usually not long, and the tour price is cheap, only from 500 VND/person/day.

In general, tourism activities in Hung Yen City are increasingly developing, which is reflected in the number of visitors and tourism revenue increasing each year. The city has also paid more attention to investing in tourism development.

tourism, making tourism, trade and services become the spearhead economic sectors of the region. However, tourism in Hung Yen city still has many limitations such as:

Currently, the city only exploits two main types of tourism: spiritual tourism and eco-tourism. The remaining types have not been exploited effectively such as: conference tourism, seminar tourism, business tourism, experiential tourism... tour guides still lack professionalism, monotonous tours do not meet the needs of customers. Revenue from tourism mainly comes from accommodation and food services. Accommodation facilities in the area are still heavily family-oriented, not paying attention to improving overall quality. Along with that, the awareness of a large number of people about tourism is not adequate, leading to poor business and service.

On the other hand, infrastructure investment from the state budget is still limited, scattered, and has many shortcomings. Socialization of tourism has not received much attention. The city's tourism planning still lacks comprehensive and detailed planning.

At the same time, although the number of workers serving in the tourism industry has increased, they still lack experience and have not received basic or specialized training in professional skills.

Along with that, tourism promotion and advertising work is still limited and not very effective. Connecting tours, routes, and tourist attractions for river tourists still faces many shortcomings.

Because of the above limitations, it is necessary to propose appropriate solutions to effectively exploit the tourism resources of Hung Yen City. One of the measures that need to be implemented promptly is to build specific tours for Hung Yen City.

Chapter 3: Planning specific tourism programs for Hung Yen City

Recognizing the role of tourism in the socio-economic development of the country, in connection with the results that the tourism industry of Hung Yen city has achieved.

Yen has achieved in recent years, I boldly propose directions for tourism development of the city in the following years. My topic is to propose specific tourism programs for Hung Yen City (mainly 1-day or 2-day programs) to develop the tourism industry as well as exploit the potential of the city.

The 1-day program allows visitors to go back and forth in a day, without paying for accommodation, saving many other expenses. However, in this program, visitors sometimes do not have enough time to fully understand the local culture. With a 2-day or longer program, visitors will have to pay for accommodation, food, transportation and many other accompanying services, but they will experience more, learn more and discover new things.

3.1. MICE tourism combined with spiritual tourism

MICE tourism is a type of tourism that combines the purpose of attending conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and participating in events with the use of tourism services and sightseeing. MICE terms: meeting, convention, exhibition, incentive.

MICE tourism is a type of comprehensive tourism, most of its tourism programs are package tours, participants in this type of tourism often do not have to pay or pay very little for some additional services arising outside the program, the payers are usually companies such as employee rewards or some organizations.

Spiritual tourism (religious tourism) is understood as the trips of tourists mainly to satisfy the needs of performing religious rituals of believers or to learn and research the religion of heretics. The destinations of these tourists are temples, churches, holy places... 12

12 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Thanh, (2008), Introduction to tourism science , University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU), p. 73.

Currently, in Vietnam in general and Hung Yen in particular, MICE tourism is still new, so the application of MICE tourism still faces many difficulties. However, Hung Yen City is a place with very rich human tourism resources that effectively serve the development of spiritual tourism.

Spiritual tourism in Hung Yen City only develops during the festival season and tourist activities only take place during the day, so the application of MICE tourism combined with spiritual tourism will prolong the seasonality in tourism by creating events to exploit the MICE tourism market well. The city and businesses must proactively create many events: trade fairs, competitions such as: Miss Pho Hien, fishing competitions, kite flying, buffalo fighting, sports competitions... especially now the Pho Hien folk festival has just been organized, this is a big festival, typical of the whole Hung Yen City. If combined with attending conferences, seminars or rewarding employees at the beginning of the year, the Pho Hien folk culture festival completely meets that condition.

Program Building

Hanoi – Hung Yen City Tourism Trade Fair – Chuong Pagoda – Mau Temple

Hung Yen City Tourism Trade Fair is a place where all the products and handicraft products of Hung Yen City in particular and Hung Yen Province in general converge. This is a big event that will attract the attention of many businesses and individuals to participate. This is also the place where art performances with the cultural identity of Hung Yen take place (Cheo, Trong Quan, Ca Tru, modern music, etc.). When tourists enjoy participating in the largest fair in Hung Yen, they can combine a spiritual tour with the sacred Mau Temple and the ancient pagoda with hundreds of Buddha statues here.

Hanoi – Pho Hien Folk Culture Festival – Chuong Pagoda – Tran Temple – Mau Temple

Pho Hien Folk Culture Festival is the most prominent event of the year for the tourism industry of Hung Yen City so it will certainly attract a large number of visitors.

a large number of visitors come to Hung Yen during this time. When participating in the festival, visitors will also continue to explore the spiritual tourism journey on the land of culture.

In addition, similar programs can be built with events such as kite flying festivals and Miss Pho Hien contests.

However, the festival season in Hung Yen City usually lasts for the first 3 months of the year, and the events only last for a few days, so to overcome the seasonality of tourism, we need to combine many different measures to build a friendly image of Pho Hien, attracting domestic and international friends.

3.2. Homestay tourism

Homestay is an ideal type of "green tourism" for international youth who love to explore the culture of native countries. This type is also developing rapidly and is popular in Vietnam. When traveling Home Stay, instead of staying in hotels or motels, you will stay at the homes of local people or in friendly houses for guests adjacent to the host's house to have a closer and more realistic view of the lifestyle and culture of the host country or of the local people. Guests are considered a member of the family and participate in daily activities such as eating together and chatting with members, participating in local cultural and tourism activities. Guests are also required to “follow local customs” and respect certain rules and privacy of the host family by participating in living, eating and living as a member of a local family. This is not only an enjoyable experience, but also creates opportunities for international and domestic guests to make friends with local people.

Homestay tourism is strongly developed in Sa Pa, Moc Chau, Mai Chau... but in Hung Yen this type is still very new and is still in the process of building and designing the program. Hung Yen city currently has only about 12 homestays and according to the investigation and survey in 2015, there were only 1005 visitors using homestays.

using this service, mainly serves the need to learn about the values, historical - cultural relics, customs, practices of indigenous people and traditional craft villages. However, when participating in this type of tourism, tourists must accept to use the services of local people, so sometimes the facilities are limited. This type of tourism faces many difficulties in Hung Yen City because it is not easy to convince people to do "homestay" because everyone wants privacy, moreover, how to make the host deeply aware of the service they are providing, the benefits it brings to themselves and the value to society, this also means that each Homestay owner is a cultural ambassador. On the other hand, the management of homestays is not strict, so sometimes there is a situation of overcharging customers, the quality of service is not good. Because of the above difficulties, homestay tourism activities in Hung Yen City. Hung Yen is still gloomy and ineffective, so it needs more investment to promote the development of the tourism industry.

For management agencies: It is necessary to have detailed statistics on homestays in Hung Yen city, regulate general prices to avoid overcharging customers, plan craft villages, and strengthen tourism promotion.

For travel businesses: It is necessary to design suitable destinations, choose homestays, and equip local people with tourism knowledge.

For local people: Realize the importance of this new type of tourism for future economic development, thereby equipping themselves with professional knowledge to contribute to building a friendly destination in the hearts of tourists.

Program design – routes, tourist attractions

The tour lasts 2 hours.

Or in the heat of summer, enjoy a bowl of longan lotus seed sweet soup cooked by the skillful hands of the people of the longan land, the quintessence of cuisine when combining the cool longan pulp with the fragrant aroma of early-season lotus seeds. Program 2: Hanoi – Hung Yen City (Bao Khe Commune)

The car picks up guests at the appointed location, takes visitors to Hung Yen City, where they rest and have lunch at a local's house with regional specialties, then begin their journey to experience the life of the craft village people. The tour lasts 2 days and 1 night with an estimated price of 1.3 million (group of over 30 people) including 6 meals, shuttle bus, accommodation at a local's house, insurance, and tour guide.

On this journey, visitors will learn about the traditional craft village of Cao Thon Incense. Coming to the traditional craft village, visitors will not only admire the products created by the diligent, skillful and creative hands of the local people, but also directly participate in the incense making process with the locals, directly participating in the daily life.

with the host. Not only that, visitors can also visit the fragrant lotus pond on a bright summer day. What is special is that visitors can participate in a certain stage of the production process with the locals. All will bring a completely new experience when visitors join the homestay tour in Hung Yen city.

3.3. Craft village tourism

Craft village tourism is a type of cultural tourism through which tourists can appreciate the tangible and intangible cultural values closely related to a traditional craft village of a certain ethnic group. From there, it helps tourists appreciate the values of ethnic cultural identity in the locality. Through this type of tourism, handicraft products produced in craft villages will be exported on the spot, contributing to the development of the local economy and improving the living standards of residents. Craft village tourism is mainly sightseeing, shopping, learning, exchanging, signing economic contracts, with few other types of accommodation and resorts.

This type of tourism was born with the development of the tourism industry in Hung Yen province. This is not a new type of tourism but it is still attracting a large number of visitors to Hung Yen city. Every year, the city welcomes about 25,000 visitors to visit craft villages and that number is still increasing. Visitors choose traditional craft villages in Hung Yen city such as lotus seed and longan processing villages in Phuong Chieu and Hong Nam communes, and Cao Thon incense village in Bao Khe commune. The programs of the craft villages serve visitors to visit, learn about the production process, directly enjoy the products in the craft villages and can buy products at affordable prices right at the destination.

However, craft village tourism in Hung Yen City still faces some limitations such as: Many production households do not cooperate with travel businesses and tourism agencies for fear of affecting production, and there are few destinations to choose from.
