DNIM is an event that attracts a growing number of tourists and professional athletes to Da Nang every year. In 2013, there were nearly 3,500 domestic and international tourists and athletes participating, and by 2015, it is expected that there will be about 5,000-6,000 athletes participating. After several years of organizing the Da Nang International Paragliding Competition, it has attracted the attention of many athletes from 4 to 8 participating countries. However, this event has not attracted many international tourists, mainly local tourists.
By 2012, Da Nang had developed more in quantity and quality to have more activities such as: Art program taking place at the sea park stage, Da Nang 2012 skating competition, Bartender competition 2012, a professional playground for bartenders of hotels, restaurants and bars held at the East Sea park stage.

2.2.5. Current status of event tourism promotion

A very important issue for the development of conference tourism is that Da Nang city has a lot of experience in welcoming and organizing major events such as: welcoming delegations of heads of state, foreign delegations to Da Nang for meetings, expanding international cooperation, promoting investment, trade, tourism such as: ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference AIPO (2002), Da Nang Investment Conference (2003), Vietnam - Thailand Cabinet Meeting (2004), Ministerial Conferences within the framework of APEC Vietnam Year 2006, Business Conference
2006, East-West Economic Corridor Week 2007, Da Nang International Fireworks Competition, Da Nang Investment Forum 2009, and ASEAN conferences in Da Nang.
Da Nang (2009 - 2010), has brought the city to a new position as an attractive venue for regional and international events.
With the orientation of developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector, Da Nang is determined to develop into an " event city " to promote the image, increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of the city's tourism. In addition to the International Fireworks Competition (DIFC) held continuously for 6 years (2008-2013), Da Nang also proactively hosted major events such as the DIPR International Flight Performance Competition in 2012, 2013, 2014, Miss Vietnam Final in 2012 and the International Marathon in 2013, 2014, 2015. Not only affirming the effectiveness of promoting the brand and attracting domestic and foreign tourists to Da Nang, events, typically DIFC, also provide an overview of the local tourism service capacity.
The city has also coordinated with the aviation industry (Vietnam Airlines and international airlines with flights to Da Nang) to increase its presence at tourism promotion events, while coordinating with tourism businesses to organize and participate in domestic and international tourism events under the public-private partnership model, contributing to improving professionalism, efficiency, and increasing socialization in the city's tourism promotion work.
However, the communication work for the event has only focused on visual encouragement and domestic promotion. To promote internationally, our major events still lack legitimacy and have not been recognized by international organizations. For example, with a fireworks festival lasting 6 years, Da Nang has not yet joined any international fireworks organization and is little known by the press and international communities. Or, although it was organized in coordination with a member of the AIMS International Marathon Association, the 2013 International Marathon was not mentioned in the official information of AIMS. Thus, the effectiveness of promoting tourism abroad through major events, even like DIFC, has not been achieved.
Besides, events in Da Nang are still not really attractive and do not encourage spending. The attractiveness of the event greatly affects the effectiveness.

Another limitation is that events have not helped improve the seasonality of Da Nang tourism, there are no outstanding events to attract visitors during the low season while increasing the heat during the high season (for example, DIFC is held on the occasion of April 30 and May 1, which is already crowded).
“ Event City ” evokes the image of a city with many attractive events that can attract visitors to come, stay for many days, spend and experience. However, there is still a long way to go for Da Nang to reach this title, in which the most important thing is to strengthen the capacity to manage and organize events. This helps Da Nang exploit current resources such as infrastructure conditions, cooperative relationships to perfect from awareness to organization process to bring attractive events, attractive to sponsors.
2.3. GENERAL ASSESSMENT OF THE CURRENT STATUS OF EVENT TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN DA NANG
2.3.1. Successes
- Da Nang can be considered a typical lesson in the success of event tourism development in Vietnam. Da Nang has converged the conditions of urban, infrastructure, service facilities and tourism products. After 15 years, along with economic and urban development, Da Nang has formed a new face of tourism, a new capacity with high quality of tourism services. The development of Da Nang not only creates a new destination for the Central region but also is the driving force for the development of Vietnam tourism.
- In addition to the spectacular progress in infrastructure, the most outstanding thing is that the leaders of Da Nang City, the business community and the people have made efforts for a tourist city, building a destination of high class and high influence, not only domestically but also internationally. Da Nang has become diverse and become a destination for MICE tourism, business tourism, resort tourism... Many outstanding events such as fireworks, marathons, international sailing races... make tourists from all over turn to Da Nang.
- Nowhere in Vietnam does the entire city leadership, tourism industry, business community and people work together to organize and implement state management, destination development and tourism business like Da Nang.
- Da Nang is proactive in promoting, supporting and facilitating the exploitation of more international flights to the city. There are 30 direct domestic and international flights. This success has attracted a large number of international tourists to Da Nang.
- Da Nang has proactively created events, especially international events. Da Nang is famous for its fireworks, marathons... and in the near future, a series of international organizations will choose Da Nang to host major events such as the 2016 Asian Sea Games, the Clipper Race 2015-2016 international yacht race, APEC 2017...
Evaluate the development of event tourism in Da Nang based on the following criteria:
- Large conference and seminar rooms for over 1,000 guests
- Exhibition and fair center with large area and capacity
- Convenient hotel and restaurant system, meeting customer needs
- Service staff must be trained and sufficient in number.
- Exciting events and regularly hosting new events
- Direct flights, convenient transportation
2.3.2. Existing limitations
Besides the above advantages, exploiting event tourism in the city still has many limitations.
- Objectively: the city is located in an area with harsh weather conditions, storms, and heavy rain; subjectively: the number of exploited events is still limited, especially the scale and influence of the events are not large compared to some events of some countries in the world (Brazilian Carnival ...), the revenue is not large, the attractiveness is gradually decreasing even though the event has not been held for long. The detailed plan to promote the development of event tourism in the city, the transportation network is quite complete but the Da Nang flight system still lacks direct international flights to Da Nang, lacks infrastructure
technical infrastructure serving a large number of visitors to conferences and seminars; lack of training models to serve tourists professionally; the quantity and quality of human resources serving tourism in general and event tourism in particular are still weak and lacking; links to develop tourism, including event tourism, are still limited.
- Da Nang also focuses on organizing mass cultural, tourism and sports events and festivals such as: "Da Nang - Summer Ghost Rendezvous" program, annual international marathon, "street music" program, Da Nang International Fireworks Competition from 2008 to present.
- Although tourism promotion and advertising activities have been implemented, the scale and quality of activities are not high, the tourist market lacks stability and sustainability, and has not attracted many international visitors with long-term stays and high ability and willingness to pay.
2.3.3. Limitations
2.3.3.1. Objective causes
- Our country's economy began to innovate after 1986, so Vietnam's tourism industry is only in the early stages of development, the starting point is still low compared to other countries in the region. Therefore, it is inevitable that there will be shortcomings in assessing potential conditions, building policies and guidelines for tourism development. Enterprises also do not have much experience in exploiting tourism types to improve their competitiveness.
- Vietnam is still in the process of industrialization and modernization of the country, so it needs to focus on many different economic sectors, so the infrastructure has not been properly invested to meet tourism needs.
- Da Nang is located in an area frequently affected by natural disasters, so infrastructure and technical facilities are destroyed and spending must be spent on disaster recovery work.
2.3.3.2. Subjective causes
- Although the city government has oriented and focused on investing in infrastructure development, there is still no longer-term vision strategy including specific strategic policies for tourism development, especially core tourism products including event tourism, so there is no orientation and support for exploiting the potential of this type of tourism in the city.
- The decentralization of authority and functions to agencies is not scientific, clear and overlapping, so there are many shortcomings when solving problems related to administrative procedures.
- Investment policies have not been given due attention. Investment activities in infrastructure and technical facilities are still scattered and have not been properly focused, causing waste of time and money. The city government has not had many policies to invest in developing local tourism human resources.
- The exploitation and organization of festival programs and cultural events are still inadequate due to the lack of a team of specialized managers who understand specific tourism products and the unreasonable allocation of human resources. This leads to a lack of specialized research, investigation, analysis and evaluation projects to develop tourism development policies in general and event tourism in Da Nang in particular.
2.4. SUMMARY OF CHAPTER 2
With its diverse and rich tourism resources, Da Nang is considered the economic center of the Central region. Currently, Da Nang is a place where three basic factors converge: attractive tourist attractions, conditions for picking up and dropping off guests, and entertainment services that satisfy the needs of tourists. Moreover, Da Nang is a city with great tourism potential and is rich in genres and types of tourism. Da Nang has over 20 4-5 star hotels and resorts with modern scale, with many halls to organize international seminars and conferences. In addition, Da Nang International Airport is one of the three major international airports in the country. Especially with its convenient geographical location not too far from the capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, visitors can come to Da Nang by air, sea, road, rail, etc. With
With these conditions, Da Nang has successfully organized events such as international fireworks, international parachutes, international fairs, etc. With these successes, Da Nang strives to become an "Event City". Coming to Da Nang, in addition to working, admiring brilliant fireworks displays, experiencing parachutes, tourists can rest, relax, admire nature, visit craft villages, and enjoy local specialties.
Besides the above advantages, Da Nang still has many limitations in developing tourism, especially event tourism. Firstly, the scale of festivals is not large. Secondly, the infrastructure needs to be further upgraded. Thirdly, the number of conference rooms is not large. Fourthly, there are not many direct flights to and from Da Nang. Fifthly, the number of properly trained labor force is not large. Sixthly, entertainment and night activities are still poor. Seventh, there is a lack of tourism products for international visitors and visitors with the ability to pay... Therefore, to develop event tourism, it is necessary to quickly overcome the above limitations, at the same time, it is necessary to combine and fully exploit some other types of tourism in Da Nang, as a premise to turn this place into an attractive destination in the future, and it is necessary to focus more on EVENT tourism because this type of visitor is mainly visitors with high payment ability and quick consumption decisions.
