slow (for example, projects in Bang Lang stork garden are currently waiting to be implemented). The problem here is that Can Tho has the potential to exploit eco-tourism, but it must know how to invest, exploit, have a strategic, comprehensive view compared to other provinces in the Mekong Delta region, so that there will be products that are both typical of Can Tho and typical of the Southwest region.
2.3. Current status of ecotourism development in Can Tho city
2.3.1. Overview of Can Tho ecotourism
Map 2.2: Can Tho city tourism map (Source: Thesis author) Can Tho city is leading the Mekong Delta provinces in river and garden tourism revenue with 649,527 million VND in 2010, this is a great strength for Can Tho, as well as many opportunities for cooperation and investment development.
tourism development
Can Tho is promoting tourism, diversifying types of eco-tourism, river and garden tourism, cultural tourism, conference tourism, and promoting
exploiting the location of the local transit center to the provinces of the Mekong Delta and other provinces in the country, opening more tours and eco-tourism routes in Can Tho and from Can Tho to other provinces in and outside the Mekong Delta. The city also cooperates with An Giang and Kien Giang provinces to form the strongest "tourism triangle" in the region with river, sea, island and mountain tourism. In particular, Can Tho has completed the infrastructure of over 20 garden eco-tourism areas of nearly 300 hectares, many of which have facilities meeting national and international standards. The factors of aesthetics, civilization, environmental hygiene and safety on the Cai Rang and Phong Dien floating market tourist routes and on the Khuong, Au and Cai Khe islets tourist routes have been improved and initially achieved results.
Can Tho mobilized many economic sectors to participate in building many hotels and restaurants, increasing the number of rooms and beds to serve tourists, maintaining its leading position in the Mekong Delta, and also investing thousands of billions of VND to build islet tourism areas on the Hau River.
The city strengthens training of staff with professional service style, forming synchronous, high-quality river and ecological garden tourism programs and tours.
In 2010, Can Tho promoted cooperation with An Giang and Kien Giang provinces to expand the "tourism triangle" model, forming more tours and eco-tourism routes in Can Tho and from Can Tho to other provinces in and outside the Mekong Delta, expanding international tourism routes to attract visitors from ASEAN, Western Europe, North America, East Asia - Pacific, linking tourism development with 3 international fairs here in 2010, especially the "First Vietnam Seafood Festival (April 2010).
The city is strengthening tourism promotion and development, implementing a project to build a national tourist area in the islet system along the Hau River, upgrading Can Tho tourist routes to the provinces of Vinh Long, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
In general, Can Tho ecotourism is on the rise, increasingly focused on investment, however, the limitation of Can Tho is that it has not created a unique tourism product, there are still many overlaps with localities in the region, this is also a difficult problem for places developing ecotourism, not just Can Tho. Currently, in addition to promoting existing strengths, Can Tho tourism also combines many types together such as sightseeing, shopping, entertainment, conference, resort tourism, ... creating a rich diversity of tourism products to attract tourists and increase tourism revenue.
2.3.2. Current status of tourists
Concept of tourist: In our country, according to the Vietnam Tourism Law (2005), in Article 4, Chapter 1, "Tourists are people who travel or combine travel, except for those who go to study, work or practice a profession to receive income at the destination".
Tourists to Can Tho include:
- International tourists to Can Tho have a fairly high annual growth rate. If in 2006 it only welcomed 543,650 visitors, by 2010 it had welcomed
880,252 visitors, the growth rate of international visitors during this period also increased from
121,221 visitors up to 163,835 visitors.
- Domestic visitors to Can Tho are much larger than international visitors due to tourism resources suitable for serving domestic visitors and the increasing trend of domestic tourism. If in 2006, it only welcomed 422,429 visitors, by 2010 it had increased to 716,417, almost double compared to 2006.
- Although the number of visitors to Can Tho has increased quite a bit, the number of days visitors stay in Can Tho is still low (the average for international and domestic visitors is 1.33 days/visitor). This shows that Can Tho's tourism products are still monotonous, the services are not rich and diverse, so they are not attractive to visitors to stay longer.

However, Can Tho, with its location as the center of the Mekong Delta region, has attracted many tourists in recent years and its revenue has been increasing rapidly. Statistics for the 5 years 2006-2010, the number of tourists to Can Tho city increased as follows:

Chart 2.2: Chart of number of guests staying in Can Tho from 2006 - 2010
In the total number of tourists coming to Can Tho through the chart, it can be seen that in recent years, the number of visitors to Can Tho is still modest, not clearly showing the tourism potential of the Tay Do land and the total number of tourists staying in the city has also developed but is still within the potential, a problem clearly seen here is that Can Tho City has outstanding conditions.
Compared with other provinces, it has not had the appeal to attract tourists in recent years.

near 2010
With Tien Giang, due to similarities in tourism types and tourism potential, the number of visitors between Tien Giang and Can Tho in 2010 was not significantly different.
With Kien Giang and An Giang, due to different geographical features, Kien Giang and An Giang are blessed by nature with many attractions that have strong appeal to tourists. The number of tourists coming to An Giang and Kien Giang is very different from Can Tho in 2010, however, Can Tho with its available conditions, if exploited effectively, still has the ability to attract the same number of tourists as the above provinces.

In general, in 2010, Can Tho city's ecotourism has seen new developments, with the number of visitors increasing, especially during holidays, Tet and weekends (the number of visitors to ecotourism areas is 3-4 times larger than usual). However, on weekdays, people are busy with work so they have less opportunity to visit, have fun and relax, and during the rainy months (from May to October), the number of visitors to ecotourism areas is less than during weekends and holidays.
