Seaport Service Situation of Member Enterprises of Hai Phong Port

3. Situation of seaport services of member enterprises of Hai Phong port

3.1. Chua Ve Loading and Unloading Enterprise

Chua Ve Stevedoring Enterprise is a subsidiary enterprise of Hai Phong Port, built in 1977 due to the need to expand the port to organize production and trade of diverse goods. The port is located on the right bank of Cua Cam River, 4km east of Hai Phong Port center, about 20 nautical miles from buoy number "0". From buoy number "0" to the port, you must go through Nam Trieu channel and Dinh Vu canal.

When it was first established, the port consisted of two areas: the main port area and the Doan Xa yard area. After 2 years from 1995 to 1996, the Ministry of Transport and Hai Phong Port invested in construction and development, and the enterprise fundamentally changed in scale.

12,000 TEU, loading and unloading 1,000 containers/day and 45,000 TEU/month through the wharf by the end of 2007. In addition, the enterprise has been equipped with a number of modern specialized means and equipment with high loading and unloading productivity, reducing human labor, increasing production and business efficiency. The enterprise currently has 845m of wharf according to the standards of a level I port and a total area of the cargo yard

is 150,000 m2 .

In the first six months of 2007, the total loading and unloading output of Chua Ve enterprise was 2,725,637 tons, equal to 51% of the yearly plan, and equal to 124% compared to the first six months of 2006 (2,193,354 tons). Of which, containers alone were 233,970 TEU, equivalent to 2,688,399 tons.

Besides the advantages such as investment in purchasing new, specialized equipment and the attention of the Government, the city and the Port Board of Directors in investment in construction and expansion, there are still many difficulties: the enterprise's wharf is limited in both length and water area in front of the wharf; the current channel in and out of the port is limited, when the water level is only 4.3m-4.5m; the surface of the storage yard is not wide, greatly affecting the planning of the yard; the enterprise both produces and trades and has to repair and build infrastructure, some unloading equipment is lacking and not synchronized, the lighting system is not enough for working conditions and protecting goods; some old vehicles, serious shortage of spare parts, silted channels... affect the quality of the enterprise's services.

3.2. Doan Xa Port Joint Stock Company

Doan Xa Joint Stock Company, formerly Doan Xa Stevedoring Enterprise, is a unit under Hai Phong Port, established under Decision No. 334/TCCB-LD dated June 28, 1995 of the Vietnam Maritime Administration. On October 19, 2001, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1372/QD-TTg, converting Doan Xa Stevedoring Enterprise into Doan Xa Port Joint Stock Company. The company holds 12% and outside shareholders hold 37%.

The company's main business lines are cargo handling services at seaports, warehousing services, transportation services, maritime transport agency services... in which port operation services account for over 90% of the company's total revenue, this is also the traditional service sector and the company's strength since its establishment. Import-export freight forwarding and agency services currently account for about 6% of revenue but are gradually expanding and promising strong growth prospects in the near future. After more than 10 years of operation, the company has a fairly solid position in the field of cargo handling, foreign trade warehousing and delivery. Compared to other units in the same industry, the company's advantage is having a large warehouse area (65,000

m 2 container yard and 2,900 m 2 warehouse), relatively complete technical equipment, highly qualified workforce, many years of experience, experienced, dynamic management staff, market knowledge. In addition, with geographical conditions, in recent times, Doan Xa Port Joint Stock Company has invested in new and upgraded loading and unloading and warehousing capacity with a total investment value of more than 64 billion VND, including upgrading 210m, installing 1 fixed shore crane, purchasing 2 forklifts, renovating, upgrading and building new warehouses and some assets, management equipment... to improve the loading and unloading and transportation and delivery capacity of the company. Therefore, in 2005, the company achieved revenue of 50.5 billion VND, an increase of 13% compared to 2004 and pre-tax profit of 9.3 billion VND, an increase of 10% compared to 2004. And in the first 9 months of 2006, Doan Xa port achieved revenue of 40.23 billion VND, completing 73% of the yearly plan.

On November 13, 2006, the company marked its development by

The event was licensed by the State Securities Commission to list on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, becoming the second company allowed to move from the decentralized stock exchange in Hanoi to the official stock exchange of Vietnam.

However, similar to the general difficulties of the Port, service development at Doan Xa Joint Stock Company also needs investment and a long-term strategy.

3.3 Dinh Vu Port Investment and Development Joint Stock Company

The company was established under Decision 202/1999/QD-TTg dated October 12, 1999 of the Prime Minister. In 2006, after completing phase 1, the company officially put Dinh Vu port into operation, effectively exploiting the advantages of a young seaport. Currently, the company is continuing to promote its advantages, expand its scale, and increase its loading and unloading capacity by continuing to build wharf No. 2, with a capacity of 20,000 DWT.

Dinh Vu Port is located near the Bach Dang River mouth, currently has a fairly wide channel into the port (over 100m), the depth in front of the wharf is always -8.7m. This creates conditions for the Port to attract many customers and large tonnage ships to dock. Compared to other ports in the region, Dinh Vu Port has many advantages: being close to the sea, the length of the channel from buoy 0 to the port is short, only 1/3 compared to going deeper inside. Therefore, the cost of pilotage, channel, and fuel for ships entering to load cargo will be reduced. Ships with a large tonnage of over 20,000 tons, with reduced load, can easily enter and exit the port; in addition, due to its prime location near Cat Bi International Airport, Hanoi-Hai Phong railway and Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway. Wharf No. 2 is

scheduled for completion by the end of 2007. When both terminals are operational, the loading capacity
