IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW TEXT

* INTERVIEW EXCERPT 01

Interviewer: Mr. Le Quoc Hung, Deputy Director of National External Broadcasting System, VOV5.

Interview time: March 7, 2016. Interview location: National Foreign Radio System, Voice of Vietnam.

Interview excerpt:

Question: What do you think about the radio program "For Vietnamese compatriots living far away from the Fatherland" of Voice of Vietnam?

Answer: I think the program is important for Vietnamese people living far from the Fatherland. The program contributes to promoting patriotic emulation movements, mobilizing overseas Vietnamese to return to their homeland and build the country. However, in reality, the program still has many issues to worry about. First of all, because it is broadcast abroad, the program has not reached all Vietnamese people living abroad. In addition, the program needs to continue to improve its structure and content to make the program more interesting and attractive.

Thank you for the interview.

* INTERVIEW EXCERPT 02

Interviewer: Mr. Tran Ha Phuong, Deputy Head of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City.

Interview time: January 11, 2016. Interview location: Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ho Chi Minh City.

Interview excerpt:

Question: Do you often follow the radio program "For Vietnamese compatriots living far away from the Fatherland" of Voice of Vietnam?

Answer: I often listen to programs of Voice of Vietnam Radio, including the radio program "For Vietnamese compatriots living far away from the Fatherland" broadcast every evening of the week .

Question: How do you rate the quality (both form and content) of the programs you have listened to?

Answer: In my opinion, the quality of the program is quite good, especially in terms of propagating the Party and State's policies and guidelines for Vietnamese people living abroad. Currently, more and more overseas experts, intellectuals, and businessmen are returning to the country to study, invest, and do business in Vietnam. This is a vivid image of the propaganda of the Vietnamese press, including the Voice of Vietnam, to overseas Vietnamese.

Thank you!

* INTERVIEW EXCERPT 03

Interviewer: Mr. Ngo Tien Diep, Vietnamese listener in the Russian Federation.

Interview time: October 15, 2015. Interview location: Hanoi. Interview excerpt:

Question: Sir, you have been living in the Russian Federation for many years.

In this cold, snowy land, do you still keep the habit of listening to Voice of Vietnam like when you were in Vietnam?

Answer: My family has been attached to the Voice of Vietnam for a long time, almost a lifetime. When I came to Russia, whenever I mentioned the Voice of Vietnam, I was reminded of my youth. In the years 92 and 93 of the last century, there was no Internet, if I wanted to contact my family, I had to go all the way to Moscow, it would cost 10 dollars a minute to make a phone call, or else I had to write a handwritten letter home. The only channel connecting to my homeland at that time was the Voice of Vietnam. Listening to the radio was a joy, the feeling of missing home and hometown was so mixed and difficult to describe.

Question: Can you tell us a memory with Voice of Vietnam?

Answer: In 1994, I and 3 other friends went to Almaty city of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the occasion of Vietnamese Lunar New Year. It was snowing outside, and we missed home very much. There was no VTV4 yet. No Internet yet. The host gave us a radio. My friend somehow managed to turn on the VOV5 program of the Voice of Vietnam. So, I was in tears, and told my friend

I cried. At that time, I missed home so much. My brothers jumped up and hugged each other, and suddenly I heard the radio. I was so touched.

Question: Nowadays, Vietnam's mass media is flourishing, but what is valuable is that you still keep your love for Voice of Vietnam?

Answer: During my trip back to Vietnam, traveling to Cho Ra town, Ba Be, Bac Can, I noticed that people here rarely watch TV, every house has a radio, turned on loudly and they listen enthusiastically. I always feel like I am back in the years 1975, 1976. Even though there are many modern means of communication with many forms now, I see that many people still love to listen to the radio. In particular, the memories and recollections of the Voice of Vietnam Radio Station still flow endlessly in me. My love for the Voice of Vietnam Radio Station comes from my mother's passion for listening to the radio. My mother passed away when she was 87 years old. When she passed away, she still held the radio by her side.

Thank you!

* INTERVIEW EXCERPT 04

Interviewer: Ms. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Vietnamese teacher in Germany.

Interview time: November 20, 2015. Interview location: Hanoi. Interview excerpt:

Question: It is known that when you were still living in Hanoi, your family often listened to Voice of Vietnam and the radio program “For Vietnamese compatriots living far away from the Fatherland”. What do you think about the content of some of the programs?

Answer: Many nights, listening to the radio program “For Vietnamese compatriots living far from the Fatherland” on vovworld.vn, I burst into tears. In the quiet night, I listened to the program and cried. I cried because I was moved to hear the voice of my homeland, I cried because the content of the program was filled with human love, love of my homeland, reminding me of my homeland, of home, where my mother and sister are living in Hanoi. I composed a poem when I listened to the program “The Voice of the Homeland for People Living Far Away”.

Question: Can you read this poem, ma'am?

Answer: I would like to read the poem "Homeland Voice" Homeland Voice

In the quiet night

Berlin quiet night.
