INTRODUCTION

1. Reasons for choosing the thesis topic

Since the 1990s, many psychologists have been interested in researching emotional intelligence and have affirmed the important role of this psychological function. There is even a view that the success of a person is determined by emotional intelligence. This is the inspiration for this field to explode in the early years of the 21st century and until now it still attracts the attention of experts and society.

Emotional intelligence is a form of comprehensive capacity that plays an important role in the life and activities of each individual. It is not only a factor that ensures the effectiveness of actions but also a factor that guides and directs actions, especially in urgent or unexpected situations. In addition, emotional intelligence is also a factor that promotes or inhibits an action. People with emotional intelligence will have more opportunities and the ability to succeed in life and work. Emotional intelligence or human skills play a more important role than technical skills in deciding whether a manager is talented or just a person who holds a good position. However, to be able to quantify the level of emotional intelligence and how to develop an individual's emotional intelligence is not simple. Therefore, research on emotional intelligence is both an objective academic requirement and has profound practical value.

In Vietnam, since 2000, the issue of emotional intelligence has received more attention and research on different subjects and professions such as: Emotional intelligence of teachers, students, parents; emotional intelligence of businessmen, social managers; emotional intelligence of officers, military students conducted in the form of scientific topics, master's theses and doctoral theses. However, currently there is no topic that goes in depth into the emotional intelligence of the subject of People's Public Security officers. Therefore, this is a "gap", new content that needs to be researched.

The Department of Security Investigation - Ministry of Public Security (A09) is the agency with the function of directly investigating and resolving cases according to assigned authority. Investigators are those who conduct investigation activities in criminal proceedings, and are those who have the authority to conduct investigation activities according to the provisions of law. Investigators are a criminal justice title used to refer to officers with the duty and authority to investigate criminal cases. They are the ones who directly conduct investigation measures according to the provisions of law, and have direct contact with criminals, so during the investigation of a case, they are the ones who play the role of the subject of psychological impact on criminals. Therefore, the emotions and behaviors of investigators have a great impact on criminals and vice versa.

In such a context, the study on the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation under the Ministry of Public Security adds a unique piece to the theoretical and practical picture of emotional intelligence in psychology in our country. In fact, during their work, some investigators still have poor emotional intelligence, which is expressed through: poor emotional control, lack of emotional harmony with the subjects of communication; investigators still have difficulty grasping the emotions of the subjects; or anger when the subjects do not cooperate, when the goal has not been achieved, etc. leading to many difficulties in the investigation process of investigators, the results of the investigation activities are negatively affected. This situation raises an objective requirement to study and find timely solutions. Therefore, the study on the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation - Ministry of Public Security is an urgent issue in the current period.

Thus , in both theoretical and practical aspects, it can be affirmed that the research on emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation - Ministry of Public Security is a new issue, urgent and has profound theoretical and practical significance. Based on the above reasons, the author of the thesis chose: "Emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation under the Ministry of Public Security" as his research topic.

2. Research purpose and tasks

Research purpose

Research theoretical and practical issues on emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security, on that basis, propose some psychological and social measures to develop emotional intelligence for investigators; contributing to improving the effectiveness of case investigation activities.

Research mission

To achieve the research objectives, the topic solves the following research tasks:

- Overview of domestic and foreign research works related to the thesis topic.

- Building a theoretical basis on emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security.

- Survey and evaluate the current status of emotional intelligence and the current status of factors affecting the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation under the Ministry of Public Security.

- Proposing psychological and social measures to develop emotional intelligence for investigators at the Security Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security.

3. Object, subject and scope of research

Research object

Main research subjects: 255 investigators from the Security Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security.

Additional research subjects: 55 management officers at the Investigation Security Department under the Ministry of Public Security.

Research object

Emotional intelligence of investigators, specifically: Expression, level and factors affecting emotional intelligence of investigators.

Scope of research

Regarding content: The topic focuses on studying the expression, level and factors affecting the emotional intelligence of investigators in investigation activities.

About the location: Research topic at the Department of Security Investigation under the Ministry of Public Security.

About time : Research topic from November 2017 - December 2021.

4. Scientific hypothesis

The emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department is at a high level but is uneven in all aspects of expression, in which: the ability to recognize emotions is at the highest level; the ability to use emotions and control emotions is at a lower level.

Emotional intelligence among investigators at the Security Investigation Department has certain differences according to variables such as: gender, seniority, education level, and work experience of the investigator.

The emotional intelligence of investigators is affected by many factors, both subjective and objective. Of which, subjective factors have a stronger influence; It is possible to develop the emotional intelligence of investigators through appropriate measures to influence the aspects of expression and factors affecting the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Investigation Security Department of the Ministry of Public Security.

5. Theoretical basis, methodology and research methods

Theoretical basis

The research of the thesis is based on the theoretical foundation of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought; the guidelines and viewpoints of the Communist Party of Vietnam on the activities and development of the People's Public Security force. In addition, the thesis also studies and applies the Directives and instructions of the Ministry of Public Security on investigation work and the responsibilities and tasks of investigators.

Methodology

The thesis is researched based on the methodology of psychological science and the principles of approach such as: Principle of activity approach; principle of system and structure approach; principle of personality approach; principle of practical approach. The above principles are the red thread throughout the research process of the thesis.

Access to activities

Psychology and consciousness are born from activity. Activity is the most general law of human psychology. The complex development and transformation of activity entails the complex development and transformation of psychology. In addition, psychological reflection is never separate from activity. Activity both creates psychology and uses psychological reflection as an intermediary of activity, affecting the object.

Psychological research pays special attention to the movement of the system of relations between the macro-structural elements of activity - on the one hand, conditions, goals, motives, and on the other hand, corresponding to operations, actions and activities.

Therefore, the study of emotional intelligence of investigators is not separate from their own activities, which means that through the activities of investigators, the aspects of emotional intelligence will be considered and studied specifically. Providing directions for organizing activities is one of the ways to contribute to changing the level of emotional intelligence of investigators.

Systemic - structural approach

The emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department is expressed in the aspects of emotional recognition ability; emotional understanding ability; emotional application ability and emotional control ability. These contents interact, influence and influence each other to create a unified whole in the intellectual qualities of the investigator. At the same time, emotional intelligence is influenced by many factors, so in order to fully and comprehensively research and propose appropriate measures to develop emotional intelligence, a systematic research approach is needed.

Personality approach

Approaching personality is approaching specific people who are living and working. The principle of approaching personality requires that when studying human psychology, we must approach each specific person with all the advantages and disadvantages of the attributes and psychological qualities of that individual. Investigators from the perspective of personality approach require to see each investigator as a specific personality, a product of social-historical conditions, a product of education and in a specialized professional environment associated with the process of self-training of the individual. Therefore, when studying the emotional intelligence of investigators, it is necessary to comprehensively approach the personality of investigators according to the general standards of qualities and abilities of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation under the Ministry of Public Security and comply with the requirements of the responsibilities and tasks of investigators.

Practical approach

The emotional intelligence of both investigators is affected and influenced by certain factors in practical conditions. Approaching the emotional intelligence of investigators must be associated with understanding the two practical conditions of the investigator's activities and linked to each specific case.

Humans are social beings. Individual behavior is considered to be the result of the impact of many different objective and subjective factors. Therefore, the study of emotional intelligence of investigators in correlation with many factors such as: personal psychological factors, social psychology, socio-economic conditions.

Research methods

To achieve the research objectives and solve the proposed research tasks, the topic uses a combination of research methods:

Document research method : Analyze, synthesize, and generalize domestic and foreign research works related to the emotional intelligence of investigators to build a theoretical basis for the topic.

Group of practical research methods : Multiple choice method, questionnaire survey, group assessment, observation, in-depth interview, analysis of typical psychological portrait.

Method of processing and analyzing data using mathematical statistics: Using SPSS 20.0 software to process data to investigate the emotional intelligence status of investigators and the status of influencing factors.

The purpose and implementation of each method are presented in chapter 3.

6. New contributions of the thesis

Theoretical contributions

The thesis contributes to enriching the theory of emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security according to a new approach.

The thesis clarifies that the emotional intelligence of investigators is a comprehensive capacity in the personality structure of investigators. The thesis focuses on explaining the manifestations and criteria for assessing the emotional intelligence of investigators. At the same time, the thesis focuses on clearly analyzing the position and role of factors affecting the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Investigation Security Department under the Ministry of Public Security.

Practical contributions

The thesis clarifies the current status of emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security on various aspects of expression and based on assessment indicators of emotional intelligence. The thesis shows that the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department under the Ministry of Public Security is at a high level but uneven in all aspects of expression; in which the ability to understand emotions is at the highest level of expression. To determine the relationship between the emotional intelligence expressions of investigators, through conducting correlation testing. The research results have shown that the levels of emotional intelligence expression of investigators have a positive and close correlation.

The research results of the thesis show that the emotional intelligence of investigators is influenced by two groups of subjective and objective factors; in which, subjective factors have a stronger influence than objective factors on the emotional intelligence of investigators.

Identifying psychological and social measures to develop the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation under the Ministry of Public Security. At the same time, analyzing 02 typical psychological portraits to see the overall picture of emotional intelligence through the manifestations as well as the impact of subjective and objective factors on the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Department of Security Investigation.

7. Theoretical and practical significance of the thesis

In theory

The thesis supplements and enriches the psychological theory of emotional intelligence of investigators. It adds a research direction on emotions for the subjects who are people working in the armed forces, specifically in criminal investigation activities.

Develop aspects and levels of expression to assess the emotional intelligence of investigators. Point out factors affecting the emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department.

In practice

The practical research results of the thesis serve as a scientific basis for the development of emotional intelligence of investigators at the Security Investigation Department.

The results of this study can be used as reference material in teaching and researching personal emotional life, in researching and training emotional control to serve the training of staff of the Industry.
