INTRODUCTION

1.1 Problem statement

Nowadays, the world is recording many significant advances in the tourism industry, especially ecotourism and conservation due to growing concerns about environmental issues. Ecotourism no longer exists only as a concept or a topic for contemplation but has become a global reality. As we know, to develop tourism, the indispensable condition is natural resources. In which, the natural environment such as water, air, land and mountains are the main factors to bring satisfaction to tourists. The more tourism develops, the more it has a significant impact on the natural environment. Therefore, the issue of environmental protection in the development of tourism is an urgent issue for each country because it has a direct impact on the development of this smokeless industry.

OVERVIEW OF DOCUMENTS

2.1 Overview of ecotourism

2.1.1. Concept of ecotourism

Ecotourism (ECOT) is a type of tourism based on nature, responsible for supporting the goals of conserving ecosystems, natural environments, indigenous cultural values, community development, while bringing great economic benefits, contributing positively to tourism development in particular and socio-economic development in general. This type of tourism has been developing rapidly on a global scale and is increasingly attracting attention in many countries and international organizations. (Ngo An, 2009)

In 1999, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, ESCAP, WWF, IUCN defined ecotourism in Vietnam: "Ecotourism is a type of tourism based on nature and indigenous culture associated with environmental education, contributing to conservation efforts and sustainable development, with the active participation of local communities".

In 2006, Le Huy Ba also introduced the concept of ecotourism: “Ecotourism is a type of tourism that takes specific, natural ecosystems as its target to serve tourists who love nature, travel, enjoy landscapes or study ecosystems. It is also a form of close and harmonious combination between developing tourism economy and introducing the beautiful landscapes of the country as well as educating, propagating and protecting, developing the environment and natural resources in a sustainable way”.

Ecotourism can be understood as responsible tourism to natural areas, a tool to conserve the environment and improve the welfare of local people.

Up to now, the concept of ecotourism has been understood from many different perspectives, with different names. Although, the debate is still ongoing to find a most common definition of ecotourism, but the majority of opinions of leading experts
