Accounting for General Materials and Equipment by Periodic Inventory Method

1.6.2 Periodic inventory method

1.6.2.1 Characteristics

This is an accounting method based on actual inventory results to reflect the ending inventory value of goods and materials in the accounting books, thereby determining the value of goods and materials exported during the period according to the formula:

Value of goods sold during the period

= Beginning inventory value

+ Value of goods imported into warehouse during the period

- Ending inventory value

In the periodic inventory method, any increase or decrease in materials and goods is not tracked and reflected in inventory accounting accounts but is tracked and reflected in a separate accounting account, account 611 "Purchases".

The periodic inventory method is applied in businesses with many types of materials and goods with diverse specifications and designs, low value, and are used or sold regularly.
