CHAPTER 3 FTTX NETWORK DEPLOYMENT AT CMC TI

3.1 Chapter Introduction

CMC Telecommunication Infrastructure Joint Stock Company (CMC TI) is the first unit to deploy GPON network in Vietnam. CMC TI has selected Alcatel-Lucent's 7342 ISAM FTTU equipment line to provide a gigabit passive optical network solution (Gigabit Passive Optical Network - GPON). This GPON network allows CMC TI to deploy advanced Triple play services, including high-speed Internet, communication and information services, and high-definition television/video for residential areas and small and medium-sized enterprises. This chapter will go into detail about the technical features of the 7342 ISAM FTTU equipment.

The overall model that places need to provide network services to consumers is the path from ONT to OLT and then transmitted to places such as IP voice, data, video. Depending on the needs of consumers, people will transfer to different servers. At CMCTI, Alcatel-Lucent deploys its leading GPON solution.

It is a device for home use. Indoor ONT provides connection between fiber optic cable

PON and user equipment, Indoor ONT serves as a single entry point for services. Multiple ONTs are connected to the 7342 ISAM FTTU network.

Indoor ONT provides interfaces for:

• 2 channels of voice service (POTS)

• 2 10/100Base-T Ethernet cables

• 1 RF video connection

• 1 fiber optic port and 1 power port

Outdoor-series ONT device: installed inside or outside the house.

3.3.2.1 . Overview of the 7342 ISAM FTTU product

7342 ISAM FTTU is a fiber optic system that provides voice, data, and video services to residential and business premises. 7342 ISAM FTTU collects and distributes high-speed digital information, using GPON passive optical network technology.

Figure 3.7 7342 ISAM FTTU Device

The GPON fiber optic network connecting the P-OLT and ONTs is a passive optical network (PON). Each GPON network connection from the OLT-P is a single fiber optic connection. The P-OLT supports up to a maximum of 32 GPON network connections.

The 7342 ISAM FTTU supports more services than GPON, including: voice, data, and video. Using the V-OLT, the 7342 ISAM FTTU supports standard cable video, television services, as well as analog and digital channels. The V-OLT supports the full radio frequency (RF) spectrum from 47 MHz to 862 MHz.

3.3.2.2 GPON Features of 7342 ISAM FTTU

The 7342 ISAM FTTU provides the following GPON features:

• Provides voice, data, and IPTV services to up to 64 subscriber ports.

• Forward error correction (FEC) on the PON interface.

• RF video distribution services supporting analog and digital channels.

• Multimedia over Coaxial Alliance (MoCA) support configuration

for ONTs with MoCA support

• The 2.488 Gb/s Down Stream uses a 1490 nm wavelength and the 1.244 Gb/s Up Stream uses a 1310 nm wavelength.

• Maximum distance is 20 Km.

• GEM-based encapsulation.

• Compliant with standard full service access network (FSAN).

3.3.2.3 Services

The 7342 ISAM FTTU supports multiple services, including: voice, data,

IPTV and RF video, over packet switched network (PSN).

3.3.2.4 Network interface

The 7342 ISAM FTTU provides a high speed and broadband network access

high bandwidth. This network access includes the following interfaces:

• P-OLT interfaces between gigabit Ethernet (GE) networks and ONTs

• V-OLT interfaces between video service provider networks and ONTs

• ONT interfaces between OLT-P and subscriber equipment

• The interfaces support the following connections: Optical P-OLT connects to the network with

Ethernet network: LC/UPC

• Optical P-OLT network connection to GPON: SC/UPC

• Optical ONT connects network to GPON: SC / APC

P-OLT System Interfaces The P-OLT provides core processing, switching, and control functions. In the Downstream direction, the P-OLT interacts with Ethernet switches and voice gateways using network termination (NT) cards. In the UPstream direction, the P-OLT distributes voice, data, and video in tracks, or traffic, to ONTs over the GPON. At the P-OLT, the line termination (LT) card terminates the GPON connection. The P-OLT also contains an alarm control card and manual interfaces, allowing EMS access to the 7342 ISAM FTTU systems for operations, administration, and maintenance (OAM). Each P-OLT system supports up to:

• Two NT cards

• 16 LT cards

• 32 Pons per P-OLT with each LT card supporting two Pons

• 64 indoor ONTs, outdoor ONTs, or business ONTs per PON

• 48-Gb/s switching capability

V-OLT interface:

- V-OLT RF distributes video services over PON from video service providers to subscribers.

- The V-OLT provides the interface between the network and the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) video service provider. The ONTs connect to the video service provider network using GPON and WDM.

Device Management: EMS has the function of remotely managing P-OLT from a central location.

The release includes the following support:

- 5,523 AWS

- 5,528 WAM

3.3.2.5 ISAM 7342 FTTU equipment structure

7342 ISAM FTTU provides 1 gigabit over optical network (GPON) as the base

access network and has 3 main characteristics:

- The packet optical line equipment (P-OLT) provides central switching,

processing and control functions.

- Video optical line equipment (V-OLT) provides service processing and allocation

video.

- The optical network equipment (ONT) provides processing area switching and control functions.

3.3.2.6 Device functional blocks

The device's functions include the functions of the blocks : Power block, Control block, Service module block, P-OLT optical signal transceiver block.

The optical signal transceiver block consists of two main functional blocks:

• Network equipment (NT)

• Equipment line (LT)

Figure 3.8. P-OLT functional blocks with one EHNT

The functional blocks are built on the application software platform, including communication and management protocols, core services and management applications, and transport applications.

Network termination : NT function blocks contain a pair of NT cards and ACU cards that provide the following main functions:

- Switching layer.

- Backup NT.

- Control and management.

- Synchronization

- Connect.

Switching Layer : NT and LT terminals work together to provide switching layer switching functionality. NT cards provide virtual local area network (VLAN) management functionality. This functionality controls port mapping, including user to network interface (UNI) to a port and GPON encapsulation module (GEM) to VLAN port mapping to establish a data transmission path. LT devices provide switching layer switching in cross-connect or iBridge mode.

NT Redundancy : The second function is that two redundant NT switching layers are provided for sharing. Normally when both NT cards are active, the on-board controller (OBC) on the switching layer functions as the control unit for the operation of both switches.

Control and management: The switching layers have OBCs that control the Internet Protocol (IP) routing function separately. This switching is managed separately from the NT card. The switches have their own management information base (MIB) that can be accessed directly using the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) or indirectly using the protocol with language (TL1) or command line interface (CLI). The OBCs on the NT card control the operation of the entire P-OLT. The NT OBCs have a faster management speed than Ethernet (FE), the NT OBCs connect to the OBCs on the switching layer to synchronize the databases. The NT OBCs manage their own information base (MIB) that can be accessed directly using the
