Purpose of Data Processing Using Mathematical Statistics:

In order to understand more deeply and describe more clearly the temple-going behavior of some specific students. The results obtained from this method will clarify the research results on the majority and help the research to be more in-depth and convincing.

2.2.5.2. Research content

Psychological analysis is conducted for each case to survey: Information about the individual and family: family circumstances, family traditions, family relationships, social relationships, personal occupation, financial conditions, some personal psychological characteristics; Specific manifestations of temple-going behavior; Factors affecting students' temple-going behavior.

2.2.5.3. How to do it

After the formal survey, we conducted a case study. We interviewed each believer directly using pre-prepared open-ended questions related to the research topic. To have diverse sources of information, we selected subjects with relatively different characteristics in terms of age, current occupation, place of residence, and family circumstances. The research subjects included three typical students who went to the temple:

Case 1: Students who go to the temple regularly Case 2: Students who go to the temple occasionally Case 3: Students who go to the temple rarely

With the following contents: First, some features about the person being studied; Second, the current status of the levels of expression of temple-going behavior, including external manifestations (cognitive aspects, belief aspects, action aspects) and motivational expressions of the behavior; Third, the level of influence of factors on temple-going behavior

2.2.6. Data processing method using mathematical statistics

In the thesis, mainly using mathematical statistical method with the support of SPSS software on Windows 20.0 operating system to process the collected data. From the mathematical statistical method, it is possible to draw scientific, accurate and appropriate conclusions.

suitable for the research purpose of the topic.

2.2.6.1. Purpose of data processing using mathematical statistics:

+ Study the current situation of temple-going behavior of young people in Hanoi;

+ Study the factors affecting the temple-going behavior of young people;

+ Compare the correlation of youth's behavior of going to pagodas in terms of gender, second year student, school, place of residence, whether anyone in the family follows religion, and whether the student himself has a part-time job.

+ Analyze the correlation between the level of temple-going behavior and factors affecting students' temple-going behavior.

2.2.6.2. Content of data processing using mathematical statistics:

The thesis uses two methods of descriptive statistical analysis of mean score, standard deviation, frequency as percentage of options answering the questions; and inferential statistics including: comparative analysis, bivariate correlation analysis used to find the first-order relationship between two variables, linear regression analysis to predict the research results.

* Descriptive statistical analysis method. The descriptive statistical indicators used in the research of the topic are:

+ Mean score: Used to calculate the score achieved for each expression.

+ Standard Deviation: Used to describe the level of concentration or dispersion of selected answers.

+ Frequency is the percentage of options that answer the questions.

* Statistical inference method:

+ Comparative analysis: In this study, we mainly use the method of comparing mean values (compare means). Choose the significance level: α = 0.05, if p(sig.) ≥ 0.05 we conclude that there is no statistically significant difference, if p(sig.) < 0.05 we conclude that there is a statistically significant difference. Use T-test to compare the mean values of two independent populations. And Anova analysis of variance to compare the mean values of three

groups or more. To find out the differences in Anova, we performed Tukey HSD test for groups with homogenous variances and Tamhane test for groups with heterogeneous variances.

+ Bivariate correlation analysis is used to study the first-order relationship between two variables, meaning that the change in one variable occurs simultaneously with the change in the other variable. The degree of association or strength of the relationship between two variables is measured by the correlation coefficient (r). In this study, the Pearson correlation coefficient is used. This coefficient has a value from -1 to +1, indicating the strength and direction of that relationship. The value + (r > 0) indicates a positive relationship between two variables. The value - (r < 0) indicates a negative relationship between two variables. When r = 0, the two variables have no relationship. Based on the probability coefficient (p), we can know the significance level of the relationship. Here, we choose α = 0.05 as the significance level. When p < 0.05, the value r is accepted as significant for the analysis of the relationship between two variables.

+ Linear regression analysis: Regression analysis allows us to examine the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables. We often use regression to predict dependent variables from independent variables. Therefore, independent variables are also called predictor variables. In regression analysis, based on the parameters of adjusted R2, standardized Beta, constant, F-test, Sig. (considered statistically significant when p < 0.05) to determine how the dependent variable changes when one or more independent variables (predictor variables) change. Specifically, in this study, we examine the changes in subjective factors that can predict changes in the level of youth's behavior of going to pagodas. If so, what are those factors and to what extent are they predicted?

2.2.7. Expert method

In order to clarify the concepts and indicators to assess the current status of behavioral manifestations as well as the influence of factors on the behavior of young students going to pagodas; ensure the reliability of the tools; and direct data collection according to the purpose and tasks.

For the research, we asked for opinions from experts in this field. The experts we asked for opinions include: 1. Doctor of Religious Studies NM Cuong, working at the Institute of Religion and Doctor of Religious Studies LTV Anh, working at the Hanoi University of Home Affairs.

2.3. Scale evaluation criteria

Students' temple-going behavior is expressed in three aspects: awareness, belief, action and motivation. Research on the status of students' temple-going behavior is carried out with two basic contents: the current status of students' temple-going behavior and the level of their temple-going behavior. At the same time, research on the current status of factors affecting students' temple-going behavior. To quantify the level of students' temple-going behavior, a score can be assigned to each level. This score is approximate for evaluation, with the following scoring method:

To quantify the level of expression of factors in students' temple-going behavior, we assign a score to each level. This score is only approximate and is calculated as follows:

The levels of expression of cognitive, behavioral and motivational aspects include:

In this scale design, the minimum average score is 1 and the maximum is 5.

The meaning is that the larger the average score, the higher the level of selection of factors in the behavior of going to the temple and vice versa. Based on the statistical perspective of American psychologist, Robert R. Pagano: For a continuous variable, its real limits are those values that are above the recorded value by one – half of the smallest measuring unit of the scale . On that basis, the levels of the scale are designed as follows:

“Very low” level: 1 ≤ GPA ≤ 1.5 “Low” level: 1.5 < GPA < 2.5

“Average” level: 2.5 ≤ GPA ≤ 3.5 “High” level: 3.5 ≤ GPA ≤ 4.5

“Very high” level: 4.5 ≤ GPA ≤ 5.0

Chapter 2 Summary

The thesis was conducted through 5 steps from theoretical research, opinion poll, survey instrument design, pilot survey, official survey, data processing, analysis and thesis writing ensuring each stage and strict scientific process.

To carry out the tasks of the thesis, 7 methods were used, each method has its own advantages and limitations. Therefore, the research methods are used flexibly, complementing and supporting each other and have brought about general, representative and complete results. In which, the main methods we used in the thesis are the document research method and the questionnaire survey method, the in-depth interview method and the typical case study method. In each method, we clearly defined the research purpose, research content and method of implementation.

All research methods ensure a certain level of reliability, are consistent with the research content and are consistent with the research implementation issues. The data collected from the survey is processed qualitatively and quantitatively using SPSS version 20.0 software to ensure objectivity and science, helping researchers draw highly convincing comments and conclusions.

Chart 3.1. Level of temple-going among students in Hanoi

Looking at the results shown in chart 1, it can be seen that students go to pagodas with the highest level of occasional and the lowest level is very often. In total, more than

Of the five hundred young people surveyed, only a very small percentage never went to the temple. This proves that going to the temple is a fairly common trend among students. When asked about the day they go to the temple, students said that their day of going to the temple is not fixed. Most of them still go on the full moon and the first day of the lunar month, but if they are busy, they will go when they feel interested. In general, students do not have a fixed time to go to the temple, with many different times and changes depending on many factors. As Ms. To Thi M shared: "The temple is a place to pray and share sadness, going to the temple on the first day of the lunar month makes everything go smoother that month". When going to the temple, people may start with bad reasons, but gradually all of them can be transformed into positive things. Maybe when we go to the temple we see many happy faces around us in the temple, we feel happy and therefore it acts as a motivation for life. Temples are places where people often go to worship Buddha. Because it has a very quiet environment, we can really learn to increase our concentration. We can sit and spend time alone and think about the good things that have happened. Then in this way, people will not only build the power of concentration but also be grateful for themselves. Not only that, temples are places where we can donate to those who are unable to and also provide food for those with special circumstances. This is one of the best ways to increase our good deeds in life, because people do not only want to be rich in money but also want to be rich in heart. This further motivates students to go to the temple to worship Buddha. Maybe many people go to the temple to pray for peace for themselves and their families. When they pray, they usually start with pain and sadness, but after a while, they get so many positive vibes that they gradually forget their sadness and then they are always full of positive energy. One of the main reasons why people go to the temple is not only to get relief from the pressures that are happening around them, but also to receive a sign of relief and hope. In life, whenever we are in trouble, we always need an object that truly believes in us and will not
