CONCLUDE

The thesis assessing the impact of social capital on the operations of Vietnamese commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City was conducted with the research objective of exploring the structure of social capital and the operations of commercial banks, and assessing the impact of social capital on the operations of commercial banks. Thereby, recommending policy suggestions for commercial banks to improve their performance through the use of social capital, and suggesting macro policies to help banks promote the positive effects and limit the negative effects of social capital.

To achieve the above research objectives, the thesis was carried out in two phases: phase one was to build the scale and research model. Qualitative research method was used with expert interview technique; and phase two was to verify the scale and research model for typical cases through reliability coefficient (Cronbach's alpha), exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modeling (SEM).

The thesis has built a scale that ensures content value and reliability, including: the social capital scale is a third-order multi-dimensional scale with second-order components being the social capital of leaders, external social capital, and internal social capital of the bank; The activities of the bank are unidirectional scales, including capital activities, capital use and service provision. The research results have confirmed the positive contributions of social capital to the activities of commercial banks, while the thesis also points out the negative effects of social capital on the banking industry.

The research results are the basis for suggesting policies to help banks identify and measure social capital and use social capital to serve banking activities. Thereby suggesting macro policies to support banks to promote positive effects and limit negative effects of social capital.
