SUMMARY

The thesis studies the impact of social capital on the operations of Vietnamese commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City on the basis of the first integration between the quality and structure of the external, internal and bank leadership networks. In addition, the thesis also examines for the first time the relationship between social capital and the operations of Vietnamese commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City. The thesis has achieved the following research results:

Firstly, the thesis has built a scale that ensures content value and reliability, including: the social capital scale is a third-order multi-dimensional scale with second-order components being the social capital of leaders, external social capital, and internal social capital of the bank; The activities of the bank are unidirectional scales, including capital activities, capital use, and service provision.

Second, the thesis also confirmed the positive contributions of social capital to the operations of commercial banks (including the direct and indirect impacts of social capital in banking on the operations of commercial banks through accepting the hypothesis with the standardized regression coefficient accepted at the 1% significance level).

Third, the thesis also points out the positive and negative effects of social capital on the banking industry, thereby providing a basis for suggesting policies to limit the negative effects of social capital on the banking industry.

Fourth, the thesis has an important theoretical contribution in supplementing the characteristics and roles of social capital in the banking industry that previous studies have lacked.

With the results achieved from the empirical model, in terms of academics, the thesis brings new contributions on the basis of filling the research gap through providing empirical evidence on the impact of social capital on the operations of Vietnamese commercial banks in Ho Chi Minh City. In the context of

In the context of Vietnam in particular, the thesis has brought new contributions in terms of approach and contributed empirical evidence affirming the important role of social capital in improving the performance of commercial banks.

Fifth, the thesis has important contributions in terms of policy implications, helping banks identify and measure social capital and use social capital to serve banking activities. At the same time, it suggests macro policies to support banks to promote positive effects and limit negative effects of social capital.
