According to the forecast of the World Tourism Organization, Southeast Asia tourism will welcome about 125 million international visitors by 2020, with an average growth rate of international visitors to the region currently at 6%/year. This context creates favorable conditions for Lao tourism in general and Champasak tourism in particular to develop towards regional and international integration.

Recently, the 9th Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party held from June 17 to 21, 2011, in the report on the socio-economic development planning activities over the past 5 years, emphasized that the Lao economy is increasingly developing, the average annual GDP is increasing, the economic structure is transforming towards socialism; The main development program orientation in expanding ASEAN relations in the 5 years also oriented 3

3.1.1.3. In the province

Provincial leaders have had a correct view of the long-term development trend, specifically:

Tourism and tourism services have been oriented as economic sectors contributing to the province's driving force; infrastructure, including tourism infrastructure, is receiving investment attention and development in a favorable direction, attracting many domestic and foreign investors; the province has issued a number of open and preferential policies and mechanisms in investment, creating a favorable environment, attracting domestic and foreign investors.

Champa Sac province has many potentials and advantages to become a large national and international tourist city, with eco-tourism, resort, conference, seminar, nature tourism, cultural and historical tourism products.

Tour of 4000 islands associated with high quality scientific research and training centers;

The development trend and regional connectivity are expanding, Champa Sac has many potential strengths to develop and expand the tourism product market with the Northern - Central - Southern provinces such as: Luong Pha Bang province, Sa Van Na Khet, Vientiane capital, and also expand the market with borders such as the Kingdom of Thailand, Ubon province and the Kingdom of Cambodia;

Awareness of tourism among people in the province has been improved, creating a favorable social environment for tourism development according to the set goals.

3.1.2. Difficulties and challenges

Lao tourism, including Champasak tourism, develops in an environment of many fluctuations in terms of economy, politics, weather, etc. on a global scale. In particular, the current economic recession in the world is one of the major difficulties and challenges for the tourism industry of the country in general and Champasak tourism in particular.

The country's economic development level and people's living standards are generally low compared to many countries in the region; international competition is increasingly fierce; affecting the development of domestic and international tourism markets.

Tourism resources and environment are degraded due to shortcomings in management, protection and exploitation and many other reasons. The infrastructure system and tourism facilities have not met the increasing development needs of tourism.

Tourism development still lacks focus, key points, capital, and is ineffective; investment policies have not really attracted all social resources to invest in tourism development.

The work of building, directing, managing and implementing tourism development plans overlaps; the system of policies and legal regulations related to tourism development lacks uniformity; management and business experience, and professional qualifications of staff and workers in the tourism sector are still limited.

However, Pakse and Khong, Pak song, Champasak are still the main tourist clusters, attracting the majority of tourists in Champasak Province.
