PREFACE
1. Urgency of the topic
In today's era, libraries and library information centers play an increasingly important role in discovering and disseminating knowledge about nature and society. Libraries, with their inherent characteristics, will be a source of valuable documents serving the research, study and entertainment of each person. Especially in universities, information is an indispensable factor in management, education and training. Therefore, each university needs to build a system of library information centers (LICs) to serve the training career of its institution.
Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) is implementing a new training program - credit-based training. This training method enhances students' positivity, self-study and research. Therefore, the Information and Communication Center in general and the resource rooms of the Faculties in the school in particular have a particularly important position in ensuring information for teachers and students in teaching and learning. Therefore, the Resource Room and library are like the second teacher of students.
To achieve high efficiency in education and training, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has been focusing on an important part that contributes to the overall development of the school, which is the system of resource rooms of the affiliated Faculties/Departments. The operation of the system of resource rooms has brought high efficiency in the teaching, research and learning of staff and students in the whole school. Worthy of the achievement of being a leading school in the country in the training of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has 14 faculties and 2 affiliated departments. Each Faculty/Department has a resource room to serve the research, teaching and learning of its staff and students. Most of these resource rooms were built as soon as the Faculty/Department was established. Many resource rooms of the Faculties/Departments have achieved high efficiency in organizing and operating library information (LI).
Leading the system of Faculty/Department documentation rooms in both history and organization and operation is the History Department. The History Department has gone through a long process of formation and development, and its resources have become rich and diverse. However, due to the rapidly changing needs of readers, despite great efforts, the organization and information activities have not yet effectively met the needs of readers. In that situation, I boldly chose the topic : " Improving the efficiency of the History Department's Documentation Room at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities" as my thesis topic with the hope that the History Department's Documentation Room will achieve even higher efficiency in library operations in the future, best meeting the information needs of all readers.
