Geographic phenomena and things are a system of natural geography and socio-economic geography. The socio-economic system of our country includes smaller socio-economic systems at the provincial and city levels such as Dong Nai and this system is further divided into smaller levels such as economic sectors, population, society, etc.

Researching tourism development issues must consider the mutual impact relationship between natural, economic and social factors within the province's territory and within the overall national economy of our country.

When studying Dong Nai river tourism, the author puts it in relation to tourism in Dong Nai province and the Southeast sub-region as well as the whole country. In addition, the author also analyzes the development of Dong Nai river tourism in the context of the province's general socio-economic development.

Tourism is a comprehensive business, involving many different industries and fields of activity. The comprehensive perspective allows for full recognition of the interdependencies and mutual regulation between objects, elements, and processes taking place in tourism activities in a certain space and time.

On the other hand, the effectiveness of the tourism industry is also comprehensive, such as economic - social - environmental and ecological effectiveness. Therefore, in the process of researching Dong Nai river tourism, the author thoroughly applies this point of view.

It can be said that Dong Nai is a land with great potential for tourism development. However, the province's tourism has not yet developed commensurate with its inherent potential. Therefore, studying the history of formation and current status of tourism development in the province helps us easily come up with orientations and solutions to promote the province's tourism industry to new heights. Within the scope of the topic, the author only focuses on studying the current status of Dong Nai river tourism development from 2010 to present, thereby evaluating and providing orientations and solutions for the development of Dong Nai river tourism to 2020 and vision to 2030.

Tourism development has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of the province: creating jobs for workers, exploiting natural resources reasonably.

However, promoting the province's comparative advantages... However, tourism development without strict management and planning in the past has caused many negative impacts on environmental issues such as air, soil, water pollution... Therefore, it is necessary to build and implement tourism development plans in a reasonable way to harmonize the positive and negative impacts on environmental protection, creating sustainable development. This viewpoint is applied by the author in the process of researching the topic.

CHAPTER I

THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL BASIS

1.1. SOME BASIC CONCEPTS

1.1.1. Tourism

Nowadays, tourism has truly become a popular socio-economic phenomenon not only in developed countries but also in developing countries including Vietnam. However, up to now, the perception of tourism content is still not unified. Due to different circumstances, different approaches, each person has a different understanding of tourism.

People are curious about the world around them, wanting to learn more about the landscape, terrain, flora and fauna and culture of other places. Therefore, tourism has emerged and become a quite important phenomenon in human life. Up to now, tourism is no longer a separate phenomenon, the privilege of an individual or a group of people, but tourism has become a common social need, meeting the goal of constantly improving people's material and spiritual life. However, the concept of tourism has many ways of understanding because it is approached from many different angles. The following are some concepts of tourism according to popular approaches.

- Approach from the perspective of needs: tourism is the phenomenon of people leaving their usual place of residence to go to a strange place for many different purposes except for the purpose of finding a job (earning money) and during that time (they) have to spend the money they have earned.

- Synthetic approach: Michael Coltman has given the following concept:

Tourism is the sum total of phenomena and relationships arising from the interactions between tourists, tourism businesses, governments, and the environment.

local authority and local communities in the process of attracting and retaining tourists. 31

The relationship between the four subjects is shown in the following diagram:

In England, tourism comes from the word "To Tour" which means a walk (Tour round the world; to go for tour round the town; tour of inspection, ...). In French, the word tourism comes from Le Tour which means a walk, a picnic, ... The word tourism appears in the Oxford dictionary as "Tourism" published in 1811 in the United Kingdom, with two meanings: "going far away" and "traveling". It means leaving home to go far away and then returning, during that time visiting and touring in one or several localities. 3

According to the Vietnam Tourism Law (2005) in Clause 1, Article 4, Chapter I, it states: Tourism is an activity related to a person's trip outside his or her regular place of residence to meet the needs of sightseeing, learning, entertainment, and relaxation within a certain period of time. 4

At the United Nations Conference on Tourism, held in Rome - Italy (August 21 - September 5, 1963), experts defined tourism as follows: Tourism is the synthesis of relationships

relations, phenomena and economic activities arising from the journeys and stays of individuals or groups outside their usual place of residence or country for peaceful purposes, where the place of their stay is not their place of work.

Different from the above viewpoint, scholars who compiled the Vietnamese Encyclopedia (1966) separated the two basic contents of tourism into two separate parts.

First meaning (from the perspective of the purpose of the trip): Tourism is a form of active sightseeing and relaxation of people outside their place of residence for the purpose of: resting, entertaining, seeing scenic spots, historical relics, cultural and artistic works, etc.

Second meaning (from an economic perspective) : Tourism is a comprehensive business that is highly effective in many aspects: improving understanding of nature, historical traditions and national culture, thereby contributing to increasing love for the country; for foreigners, it is friendship with their own people; economically, tourism is a very effective business sector: it can be considered a form of exporting goods and services on the spot.

Thus, there are many concepts of tourism, but in summary we see that tourism contains the following basic elements:

Tourism is a socio-economic phenomenon.

Tourism is the movement and temporary stay outside the usual place of residence of individuals or groups to satisfy their diverse needs.

Tourism is a set of rich and diverse business activities to serve the journeys, temporary stays and other needs of individuals or groups when they are outside their usual place of residence.

The journeys and temporary stays of individuals or groups all have certain purposes, including peaceful purposes.

The clear distinction of the two basic contents of the concept is meaningful in contributing to promoting tourism development. Up to now, many people, even officials and employees working in the tourism industry, only think that tourism is a
