Gender consciousness in contemporary Vietnamese female poetry - 8

Female authors use different voices to express their gender's desires. Those voices all come from the poets themselves, distilled from life with many ups and downs, different experiences. They have been truly creative, truly successful when putting those voices into their poems. Besides, contemporary female poetry also has obvious weaknesses. Because they want to innovate, sometimes female writers create elaborate, eccentric verses that are strange to readers. In the context of global cultural exchange, with the emergence of many new trends and movements in poetry, some young people lacking courage have turned their poetry into imitation, lacking vitality, lacking depth, and having little artistic value. Many female poets lack endurance, having succeeded in their first few poetry collections before becoming silent on the poetry scene. "In addition to talent, perhaps our young poets also "lack a lot of pure love for literature, a love that forces people to study and work hard to create works. “Lack of respect for the values of yesterday, lack of understanding of today, lack of thinking about tomorrow” (Nguyen Thanh Son). To be successful, poetry needs to better resolve fundamental issues: tradition and modernity, inheritance and overthrow, East and West…” [16, 149].

CONCLUDE

Gender consciousness in contemporary Vietnamese women's poetry can be said to originate from the long-standing historical, cultural and literary traditions of the country with thousands of years of civilization. From ancient times, from folk songs to medieval literature, modern literature, and finally contemporary literature, the voices of fate have been kindled and increasingly burned fiercely. Today's female poets carry in their hearts the blood of female poets of all generations, carry in their veins the breath of the past, which has wonderfully combined with the innovation and development of modernity, thereby promoting traditional values, while creating a new personality of today's era. They have spoken up about their gender voices, their aspirations, and those of their gender.

Gender consciousness in contemporary women's poetry appears on two levels: content and art. In terms of content, it is the burning desire for love, sex, the desire to be a wife, a mother, the desire for equality and equal rights. That desire seems so simple and easy to achieve, but reading women's poetry, we see that many women today still suffer from disadvantages, loneliness in love, and coldness in their own homes. Women have not truly achieved happiness, have not truly achieved equality and rights. Women poets have expressed their personal voices and at the same time spoken for the community. The souls of female poets have blended with the souls of many women, sympathizing with themselves and sympathizing with their gender, and at the same time speaking for women.

In terms of art, to clearly, deeply and hauntingly express the desires of their gender, contemporary female poets have used many innovations and changes in art. Poets rarely use traditional rhyming and rhythmic verse forms, instead free verse and prose are used frequently. They create new, unique and profound images and words. Readers are fascinated by the youthful and strange poetic images such as: "letter and lock", "lonely breast" ... in Vi Thuy Linh's poetry; sweet and romantic love images in Lai Ka's poetry... Along with that are words that are both familiar and strange. In addition to putting everyday words into poetry, female poets also constantly seek to create new words to express their personalities. Female poets also put into poetry many different tones such as:

skeptical, lonely voice; philosophical, profound voice; sweet, feminine voice. That has created polyphony in female poetry, contributing to enriching contemporary Vietnamese poetry.

The emergence and strong increase of female writers has created a strong gender voice. Female poets have used their pens to fight for the aspirations of their gender. They have been and are continuing to fight, continuing to aspire, not only fighting alone but also calling on the whole community to join hands and contribute. Female writers have contributed to creating a generation of poets today who live and write about the aspirations of many women. Women need and deserve happiness and equality.
