1. Reason for choosing the topic:

Introduction

In the 20th century , along with the process of literary modernization, short stories really had strong and clear changes that contributed to creating the appearance of national literature. Many researchers have commented that this was the period of "throne" of short stories.

Vietnamese literature in the renovation period has achieved many successes.

significant in both content and form, contributing significantly to the overall achievements of modern literature. In the literary period before 1975, writers - soldiers were the main creative force of Vietnamese literature. When literature entered the period of renovation, soldiers holding pens were still important authors of national literature. Besides the pioneering writers who paved the way for literary renovation such as Nguyen Minh Chau and Le Luu, people also saw a generation of young military writers appearing and maturing during the renovation period. With a fresh, multifaceted view of life, they enriched the pages of literature about soldiers and about daily life. Their contributions have enriched modern Vietnamese prose.

Among the bright faces of military literature, Suong Nguyet Minh is one of the typical military writers. He appeared in the literary world around the early years of the nineties of the twentieth century. With passion and serious artistic work, the writer has published six collections of short stories, many memoirs, essays...

shaping a unique style that is both stable and constantly changing. In recent years, Suong Nguyet Minh has received many awards such as: Army Literature and Arts Short Story Contest Award; Golden Pen Short Story Award of the Public Security Culture and Arts Magazine (1998-2001); Short Story Contest Award of Thanh Nien Publishing House (2004); Literature and Arts Newspaper Contest Award (2003-2004). Twice

received the Ministry of National Defense's literary composition award on the topic "War and Soldiers".

As a writer who is constantly innovating and creating, continuing to renew himself, Suong Nguyet Minh entered another world, the mysterious world that paved the way for the world of fantasy literature. The most recently released short story collection: Di Huong is the first fruit of this magical combination. Di Huong has escaped the writing style of a military writer on familiar topics and is also considered a major turning point in the author's writing career.

Suong Nguyet Minh's initial success was mainly in the short story genre. With the rich life experience of a soldier who had traveled a lot,

Reading a lot, worrying a lot, plus a kind heart always looking at life and people with an affectionate look, Suong Nguyet Minh's works have shown readers many things in life: gains and losses, joys and sorrows in war or peace; the bright and dark sides of rural or urban life, the hidden corners in people's private lives. Reading Suong Nguyet Minh's literature, readers can enter a separate, rich, multi-dimensional artistic world with a simple but constantly changing literary style.

Because of the richness in the short story writing style , the author chose the topic " Artistic characteristics of short stories by Suong Nguyet Minh" to conduct the thesis with the desire to bring readers a more complete and systematic view of the art of writing contemporary Vietnamese short stories, of which Suong Nguyet Minh is the most typical case.

2. Problem history:

Writer Suong Nguyet Minh is a new author of contemporary literature, appearing on the literary scene with a not-so-long writing period . Up to now, there have been many articles and magazines focusing on evaluating the short stories of Suong Nguyet Minh, which proves that Suong Nguyet Minh's works have been interested and studied by readers.

Comments on the writing style of Suong Nguyet Minh, writer Phong

Diep in the Van Nghe Tre newspaper (2002) once affirmed: " His stories are written carefully down to each sentence, each detail. He is especially diligent in building the plot ... He writes as if he is preparing to enter a battle. The forces are prepared. When to launch, when to use tactics... rhythmically, methodically, without creating a feeling of stiffness. The reader is completely led by the writer, both excited and interested ". Writer - critic Van Chinh in the article I want to have that bell made of terracotta ( WWW.vanchinh.net , December 18, 2008) also said: "One of the factors that ensures the success of Suong Nguyet Minh is the accumulation of unusual details and situations". It can be seen that Suong Nguyet Minh was very reasonable in choosing the short story genre, because for him it has a large capacity, containing many thoughts. Reading Suong Nguyet Minh's stories, it is easy to see the elements of plot, situation and the density of details. Besides, the world of characters in his works has realistic personality traits, leaving a deep impression on readers, as Hoai Anh commented: " The author analyzes the characters' psychology quite carefully, their thoughts and feelings are clear and vivid."

® is transformed into illustrative actions that lead the reader to the world in the story ” and “Reading the short story Suong Nguyet Minh, one sees life passing through the pages gently, reality and fantasy mixed together, past and present, male and female… ” {19}

Writer Khuat Quang Thuy in the preface to the short story collection Thirteen Wharfs discovered “ unusual things ” in Suong Nguyet Minh’s writing style, right at the first “wharfs” on the path of literary and artistic creation, from breaking the traditional writing style of the genre to breaking the motif, theme and creating polyphony in the work. All of those “ unusual things” show his tireless exploration in the creative process. It is thanks to that exploration that the work

His works are constantly renewed, bringing many different flavors in each stage of composition.

Looking back at the creative process of Suong Nguyet Minh, literary critics have recognized the welcome changes in the writing style of this military writer. If in the first collections of stories such as: Trong Nhan village night, Nguoi o wharf Song Chau, Di qua dong chieu , Suong Nguyet Minh was evaluated as: " bringing to readers a literary face in the traditional style, smooth from the writing style to the names of the characters in the work ." (Thu Pho, Propaganda Magazine, October 2009), then later with the short story collections Thirteen water ports, Love market and especially Di huong , Suong Nguyet Minh has shown a breakthrough exploration as he himself believes: "A writer is a person who creates constantly like a river that flows continuously carrying heavy silt to enrich the banks and fields. A river that does not flow is a filled-up river, a dead river. A writer who stops creating is a writer who falls into oblivion in the hearts of readers" . Critics interested in Suong Nguyet Minh's works have found a way to develop

His literary movement is from “realism - romance” to “realism - romance and fantasy”. Critic Pham Xuan Nguyen affirmed that “ A writer does not necessarily have to write better than others, but

At some point, a writer must write differently. Writer Suong Nguyet Minh has done this " (Speech on the occasion of the launch of the collection of stories Di Huong). Writer Dili in the newspaper An ninh thu do (No. 18/10/2009) said that " Until now, the name Suong Nguyet Minh has often been associated with stories written about the themes of war and the countryside with a fierce yet shimmering and lyrical pen, so the birth of ghostly and sexually charged short stories with a magical and fantasy writing style in the collection Di Huong has made many readers feel strange and surprised ".

In the early stages of her writing, Suong Nguyet Minh mainly wrote about the countryside with simple, affectionate people, but full of tragedy.
